Sewing Parts Online. eBay – There are many old manuals sold on eBay. Alternatively, you may find someone has a machine the same as yours for sale, and the seller may be willing to make a copy of the manual for you. It never hurts to ask!
Find Your Model #
For sewing machines manufactured since about 1990, look for the model number on the handwheel side of the machine near the on/off switch or the electric cord receptacle.
First, make sure the bobbin-winding spindle (located on top of your machine) has been pushed back to the left for sewing. If it is not in the correct position, the needle will not go down and pick-up your bobbin thread.
Durability – Vintage sewing machines are made well. These machines have been around for a long time, and they are extremely durable. Heavy-duty build – Many vintage models can handle heavy-duty sewing with ease.
For instance, ISMCS and Singer itself state that the Singer 201 is the best overall vintage sewing machine that money can buy. In fully working condition, this model costs between $305 and $489. It was produced in large quantities from the 1920s to the 1950s, so finding parts is relatively easy.
Does It Have Historical Value? Most sewing machines on the collectible market today will not have any real historical value. The machines that get sold for thousands of dollars are generally rare items that belonged to an important historical figure or were significant in sewing machine history.
Metal Bobbin (Class 66, Group C, Curved): Class 66 bobbins that belong to Group C. They have a slightly curved (convex) surface on the top and bottom. Usually suits older Singer machines, but best to check your model.
Contrary to what some people believe, not all bobbins were created equal. At first glance they may look the same, but in actual fact different brand bobbins differ in diameter, height, depth and shape. A bobbin that is too small in diameter will cause the thread to tangle in the bobbin case while sewing.
Bobbin spindle– holds the bobbin while it winds.
First, make sure the bobbin-winding spindle (located on top of your machine) has been pushed back to the left for sewing. If it is not in the correct position, the needle will not go down and pick-up your bobbin thread.

Singer touch tronic 2001 trying to refill bobbin. bobbin does not turn. needle does not catch.
ANSWER : I’m having the same problem…I followed the directions but nothing seems to be working.
So, I was sewing along and heard a thump…kind of sounded like a louder version of what you hear when the needle hits a pin…but I wasn’t using pins. This, of course, lead to the thread jamming so I had to clear that. When rethreading I pulled out the bobbin case to make sure it was seated correctly and found a kind of “v” shaped piece of wire (about the width of a paper clip I guess) sitting loose under the bobbin case. I took it out and threw it away. Still can’t pull up the bobbin threa
ANSWER : That part was the hook end of the spring that was supposed to put tension on the bobbin – it will have to be replaced. This is a special flat spring that unfortunately only a repair shop of a dealer has it – you will have to take your machine to one. Sorry, this isn’t something you can fix yourself. In the mean time do not attempt to use the machine , the needle arm will be damaged.
Bobbin not threading through, spool thread is gathering in bobbin catch and not sewing – just clumps of thread
ANSWER : It would appear to be threaded wrongly. Pull all the threads out, check the visible upper tension discs for broken threads then re-thread top and bobbin, making sure the pressure foot is up when you re-thread. Bobbins should normally turn clockwise when the tail of the thread is pulled. Make sure thread has gone under the tension spring.
.Oddly enough, a blunt needle can occasionally cause this problem so if all else fails try changing the needle. Good luck
The bobbin thread is not coming up. I broke a needle and this happen. I have changed the needle twice. cleaned all the lint from the bobbin case. I believe this might be a timing problem is it possible for me to afix this?
ANSWER : Hi, check list:
.
.1 – Flat side of the needle is facing the back of the machine.
.
.2 – Threaded machine with the presser foot up – always.
.
.3 – Bobbin thread is feeding from the spool in the correct direction and through the proper guides.
.
.Lower and raise the threaded needle, holding onto the end of the thread.
.
.If this does not pull the bobbin thread up, the timing may need adjusting.

Do you put water in the big compartment under the solution compartment when wet washing your floor
ANSWER : You put water and Hoover Cleaning Solution into the top tank. Push down on the release button at the top of the tank just below and in front of the handle. The cap is also your measuring cup. Fill it with the Hoover Cleaner Concentrate. Pour that into the tank and fill it to the fill line with warm water.
. The dirty water will be extracted into the bottom tank.
My Kenmore sewing machine timing has gotten off. I am sewing a big upholstery project and it starting bunching thread from the bobbin. The thread is so heavy that I had to put some pressure just to get it undone. This happen a few times and then I found it wasn’t sewing at all. When I evaluated without the materials in place I could see the needle would catch on the white plastic piece under the bobbin and the thread would not catch on the metal arm. It appears to be off by 1/4 – 3/8 inch.
ANSWER : Hello
Disassemble your bobbin case which is realy quite easy, clean.thoroughly with a brush and air, paying particular attention to any.rust that may have formed, and any thread that may have weazeled it’s.way into small but very incremental areas of your case.
Make sure your needle is not in backwards. The rounded side should be on the outside
. If threading is correct and your tension is properly adjusted , then check the hook for scratches. If you have ever hit the hook with a needle, it will be scarred and will catch the thread every time the upper thread passes around the bobbin case. the hook is the sharp point on the shuttle that holds the bobbin case. If it is scratched, polish it smooth with VERY fine sand paper
Make sure that your thread arm that rises and falls, constantly having tension running through it and that it is in fact staying in place.
Alternate between the metal and plastic bobbins – sometimes the plastic bobbins tend to chip
I want to get my XL-5000 singer sewing machine to work. It does not sew. The top thread will not pick up the bobbin thread for one thing and the other problem is that it gives me a error message saying incomplete threading.
ANSWER : Check if there is any thread in the bottom bobbin and next remove it and give it a good clean in its surrounding area.Oil surrounding mechanism carefully and manually push the top needle in and watch the bobbin spinning a see if it tried to pick the thread.Look out for anything that tries to stop it from picking it up.Hope this helps.
