The Brush Bar gets too much Resistance and the Red Light Flashes. This may be caused by the brush bar being set at a level too low for the carpet that you are cleaning. To fix this, select a higher level carpet setting on the selector pad so the carpet does not get sucked into the brush bar and block the suction.
A flashing light indicates that there is something wrong with your device and this may lead your vacuum to turn off. To fix this please refer to the “Machine Displays an LED Light” section with or call Dyson for additional help: 1 (844) 679-1647.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on.
All batteries, even Dyson`s high-end lithium ion batteries fail given enough time, and the blinking red light problem is an indication that your battery has failed. The battery cannot be fixed. It has to be disposed of and replaced.
We recommend you clean your filter at least monthly or if you experience a drop in product performance or the flashing white LED lights alert you that a filter clean is required.
If your Dyson vacuum no longer powers on even after it has been charged, the vacuum`s battery may be damaged. If the battery is damaged, it will no longer hold a charge and will need to be replaced. Use the Dyson DC58 Battery Replacement page for instructions on how to replace the vacuum`s battery.
Over time, all batteries are subject to degradation. So if your run time has declined when the machine is not in Max / Boost mode, it might be time to buy a new battery. All our machines come with a 2-year initial warranty that includes the battery.
The most common cause of no power is the machine overheating and cutting out. In this case once the vacuum cleaner loses power leave it for at least half an hour and then try turning it back on again. If it comes back on again after an hour then clean your filters and check for blockages.
When using your vacuum, with the trigger pressed – Battery light. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, please charge the battery. A flashing amber light indicates that there is no power or a temporary fault (e.g. too hot/cold) …
The blue LEDs – one on each side of the battery – will flash on and off during charging. When the battery is charged, both LEDs will light for 5 seconds, then go out. The machine can take up to 4.5 hours to fully charge.
This Dyson vacuum comes with an automatic safety system that will turn off the machine if it begins to overheat. If you find that your machine is turning off intermittently, the filter in you vacuum is most likely full and covering the ventilation system. An easy fix for this is to empty and wash the filter.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
The LED light on the end of the handle will pulse with a blue LED light when charging, and the light will go out when fully charged. It can take up to four hours to fully charge your battery.
This trick fixed it perfectly:- Unplug the charger from the wall. Plug it in again. Attach your Dyson and press the trigger (on button) for around 20 seconds (nothing will happen, just keep it pressed). My Dyson worked perfectly again straight away after doing this.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.

It`s possible there`s a power consumption issue, with there just not being enough residual charge to run the machine. A new battery should fix this. My other thought is that it`s overheating. If too much power is pushed through the motor, which MAX power does, it could stop after a few seconds if it become hot.
Most problems arise because of a blockage – if not a dirty filter or cyclone unit, then something could be caught in the wand or the brush bar. Once again, the lack of suction could be caused by a dirty filter or a blockage somewhere in the vacuum`s system.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
Sometimes your vacuum pulsates on and off or keeps dying when using the extra powerful `Max Mode`, which can be related to the charge of your battery. Try turning this function off by pressing the Max button on your vacuum.
