If you notice that your Hoover shampooer or carpet cleaner doesn`t spray water or the brush roll doesn`t spin, then typically you need to replace your turbine assembly.
Although Hoover of course recommend their own detergent, we are using a 50/50 mixture of white vinegar and water, with a few drops of essential oil (tea tree oil) in it to improve the fragrance. This has worked well for us and is very inexpensive.
A carpet cleaner is a device that mechanically applies soap and water to a carpet from a clean water tank, scrubs, and then suctions up the byproduct into a dirty water tank. Carpet cleaners work by applying and suctioning up water.
A steam cleaner uses hot water and detergent to clean carpets. The water is then vacuumed up, leaving the carpets wet. After a steam cleaning, you can expect it to take at least 8 hours for carpets to dry completely. However, the time it takes will depend on whether or not you use a detergent-based cleaner.
All steam cleaners work best with distilled water. “I don`t think people realize that you can cause the steamer to stop working if you use the incorrect water,” says Kellsie Zapata, the owner of Zapata`s Cleaning Services. “The minerals in tap water will corrode the inside of your machine.”
How Steam Cleaners Work. Water is heated past the boiling point and forced out as pressurized steam through a nozzle, brush, or other attachment. The vapor loosens dirt and kills dust mites, mold, staph, and other allergens and harmful bacteria. No suction is required, since the high-heat moisture dries quickly.
WHY WON`T THE MACHINE PICK UP? The float in the dirty water tank may have been activated. Empty the dirty water tank and wait for the float to settle before re-starting the machine.

Steam vac is not sucking up moisture like it should. The dispenser is dispensing the solution and it sucks a little, but not like it should.
ANSWER : Check hoses for possible leaks.
Turbine Hi I found out through your site that my turbin is bad on my steam vac and I found some information as well on how to disasemble the steam vac to get to the turbine but still was wondering if there were some more detailed instructions on how to remove the turbin. I am a sigle mom and doing the work on the steam vac myself and need a little more detailed instructions. Please help asap and have a bless day.
ANSWER : There are some screws on the bottom that have to come out so you can remove the top housing. Take the brush block out, there are 2 screws above where it sits. The turbine sits near the front, and in the mid section, 2 screws on the front of it and 2 long screws from underneath, if you already haven’t removed them. Unhook the hoses to it thenpick it out and replace with the new one. ( Some models near the back of the housing, is a catch on each side that you have to unhook to release the top).
Solution tank does not dispense–recovery tank still sucks up dirty water from tile floor on screen porch. I applied cleaner manually with a scrub brush and sucked it up with the hoover steam vac deluxe.
ANSWER : Check to see if the when you squeeze the trigger, the rod is hitting the reservior asm(tank sits on). If not then there is a problem inside the handle and the rod. If it is hitting, then the reservior asm. is bad. Also make sure fluid is coming out of the tank when you push the vavle in at the bottom of the tank.
Beater brushes not turning on the wife’s Hoover Steam Vac model F5905-900. Found one prior ”solution” stating that it sounded like the belt was bad. That was my original thought, but on checking schematics and trying to find part numbers at Sears Parts Direct and at Hoover, it does not appear the F5905-900 steam vac HAS any belts to begin with. What’s next??
ANSWER : This one I can tell you about from personal experience with that generation Hoover Steam Vac. After using it about 7 or 8 times my brushes stopped turning also.
I disassembled it (kind of like disassembling a Chinese puzzle box) and found that the Turbine which develops the torque for the brushes simply has worn out. I replaced the part and it works fine now. Unfortunately unless you are familiar with that sort of repair it’s high on the difficulty side. When I took it to a local shop they wanted about $150 to repair it. That was more than half the price I paid for it. It’s simply not a very good design. Hoover wont’ talk about them yet they are still selling them.
The least expensive place to purchase a replacement part is at: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250648382497&rvr_id=&crlp=1_263602_263622&UA=%3F*F%3F&GUID=70355e091290a0aad3175ab7ff9f985a&itemid=250648382497&ff4=263602_263622.
The repair shop wanted to charge me $60 for the part.
It seems that the manufacturer is ignoring the problem and it’s a great claim for a class action suit against them.

Hoover Steam Vac Spin Scrub Carpet Cleaner won’t….
Posted by hoofbeats1 on Jul 01, 2008.
My machine is a little more than a year old. I have used it about 5 times. It started leaking the third time I used it. The fourth time I took it out, the brushes would not spin (I did clean them and rinse them after use each time).
Now the engine screams and won’t **** anything up. Do you have any suggestions? My last Hoover Steam Vac was great and lasted for 3 years! Hi,
I have a Hoover Dual V SteamVac F7425-900 that the brushes won’t spin. The lint screen is clean & the brushes switch is in the on position.
It dispenses & sucks up the cleaning solution & water; just no brush action. Help.
.
Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The only thing that I can recommend is that you may have a bad switch, some vacs may have a broken belt or the drive mechanism inside the Hoover Dual V SteamVac F7425-900 in or by the brush assm section and is need of repair. Please check the trouble shooting section of the owner’s manual if you’re needing help and to save money. If you don’t have one then contact the Hoover factory cust serv. So, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions. .

I posted my problem earlier today that I was having with my Bissell Little Green Machine not dispensing solution, but sucked up no problem. Someone said that the most common problem was a blockage. We put hot water in the reservoir for 15 minutes as advised and it still will not dispense. The fluid is now ”dribbling”so it is better. It is just not spraying. We are able to blow from the end and make bubbles in the reservoir which shows us it is not blocked. Any other suggestions?
ANSWER : Okay. I fixed this on mine. Undo the screws on the handle, right by the trigger. You pull the tubes off the little valve. Push on the button and see if you can blow through the valve. If not, push a pin around in the valve (with it pushed into the open position) until you can blow through it easily. Then flush it out with water. May take a couple tries. Then put it back together. Make sure you run clean water through it before putting it away. I think the solution tends to dry inside it. The machine never liked cheap cleaning formula.
