How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Air Is Stuck in Pump or Hose

If the cleaner is still not spraying despite the water and detergent tanks being full, there may be a bubble of air stuck in the pump or the hose. To fix this, you need to turn the cleaner on and lower the hose down to the floor.

The recovery hose can be damaged or clogged if it sucks up sharp or large debris. Debris can also become lodged in the hose. A clogged or damaged hose can cause a loss of suction. A loss of suction will result in poor extraction results.
To fix a clog in the hose, feed one end into a garbage bag, and poke the other end with the back of a mop pole, until you push the clog material out into the garbage bag. To fix a clog in the vacuum, whether it is a canister or bag, use your finger to feel for a clog. Pull as much of it out as you can and discard.

A good rule of thumb is to have your carpet professionally steam cleaned at least once a year, twice if you seem to track a lot of dirt in. This way you get a good, deep cleaning and don`t let the dirt build up. Vacuum once or twice a week to keep it clean in between your steam cleaning sessions.

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.

Suction problem I have a Hoover Widepath Fold Away, 12 amp motor vacuum cleaner and the problem I am having is every time I vacuum, the vacuum gets clogged up with carpet. Hi folks,
my beam vacuum makes a very loud roaring noise quite often.
the problem started when i was vacuuming up a quantity of vermiculite from my chimney.
i think i overloaded the vacuum i think and it made this loud roaring noise.

ANSWER : If the filter bag is bad and didn’t trap all of the dust, then it got into your motor, so you may have a problem with your motor now.

I have a Kenmore canister vacuum – model 25614506. Some time ago, I was not able to turn the vacuum off with the on/off switch, but could still use the vacuum. Turned if off/on by pulling the plug. Won’t start. My son was using the vacuum & Didn’t change the bag. The vacuum was making the full bag smell, but the light was’t on & it didn’t stop. I’m sorry to hear you’re having difficulties with your DC28. The cleaner should recline easily into the vacuuming position when one foot is placed on the cleaner head, and the handle is lowered. If it’s not doing this, check the clear U-bend at the rear of the machine for obstructions, as a blockage here could jam the valve carriage, making the cleaner difficult to recline.
