Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

A clog is a common (perhaps the most common) reason that a Dyson unit loses suction. They have a number of choke points in the airflow paths. Some considerations follow: Hoses: because of their often rough inner surfaces and inevitable bends, hoses are prime locations for clogs.
There are many different types of vacuum cleaner, but all of them work on the same principle of creating negative pressure using a fan, trapping the sucked-up dirt, cleaning the exhaust air and then releasing it.
The air velocity is dependent on the air volume that the vacuum cleaner is able to suck and on the diameter of the suction hose. The greater air volume, which the vacuum cleaner is able suck, the greater the air velocity becomes.
The suction control slider is located at the front of the cleaner head. The ball located between the bin and the cleaner head.
Within the 3.5kg machine is 262AW suction power1, to ensure no loss of suction. HEPA filtration traps 99.99% of particles down to 0.1 microns in size2, for scientific proof of a deep clean. Our latest vacuum also includes a single-button power control – removing the need to hold a trigger as you clean.
For example, a typical domestic model has a suction of about negative 20 kPa. This means that it can lower the pressure inside the hose from normal atmospheric pressure (about 100 kPa) by 20 kPa. The higher the suction rating, the more powerful the cleaner.
The most common cause of loss of suction is that the filters have become blocked. They may require cleaning or replacing. Another cause could be that the vacuum cleaner hose is blocked.
The most common cause of vacuum cleaner not picking up dirt properly is clogged air filter. Remove the filter and either clean or replace it as needed.
In the U.S., the common standard to measure rough vacuum is inches of mercury (“Hg), which can be measured in two different ways. One method is as “Hg gauge (“HgV), where the scale starts at 0” Hg (atmospheric pressure) and goes up to 29.92″ Hg, which is perfect vacuum.
Gravity and friction are the two main forces that make vacuum suction work. While gravity pulls molecules in the air toward the earth, creating an atmospheric pressure, the suction cup and vacuum pump cause a pressure difference, attaching both surfaces.
We have two possible ways of adjusting the pressure in a vacuum system: first, by changing the pumping speed (altering the speed of the pump or throttling by closing a valve); second, through admission of gas (opening a valve).
Replace the Brush Belt

If the vacuum is still hard to push, tilt it back far enough that you can inspect the moving brush while the vacuum is running. Be careful to avoid getting too close to the moving parts. If you see that the brush is not turning, that means you will need to replace the brush belt.

The Dyson Ball Animal 2 is the most powerful vacuum we`ve ever tested. The most powerful upright we`ve ever tested, the Dyson Ball Animal 2 vacuumed 76.3% of our testing dirt in a single pass, far exceeding the upright average of about 33%.
If your Dyson Ball Animal vacuum no longer sucks up dirt, dust, and debris when using the nozzle and its attachments, there may be a clog in the vacuum`s nozzle. Unplug the vacuum and use the Dyson Ball Animal Hose Replacement Guide to remove the vacuum`s hose and check for clogs at the base of the hose.

Suction perfect when in upright position, but when tilted to actually clean there is total loss of suction – cannot see blockage anywhere. Thanks for your help.
ANSWER : If you are confident there are no blockages, look underneath, where the brush is, and you will see a short length of reinforced clear plastic hose. This often develops a split which results in loss of suction. You can pull the hose off at the motor end and then unscrew it from the brush end to examine it thoroughly. If you find a split, it’s best not to try and tape it up (except as a very temporary measure) – a new one is not expensive.

When using my vacum upright its very low in suction, it used to be so powerfull that it lifted my carpet slightly….when using the tools section its as strong as it should be please help, ive cleaned it out but still loss of suction in upright position, from mrs richmond
ANSWER : Check the following items:
.
.* The bag and connection – change it if it’s full
.
.* Turn the vacuum over and inspect the beater bar area for any clogging. You may have to remove the bottom plate to really clean it out.
.
.* The beater bar and especially the drive belt – this area gets dirty and the belt can wear out after continued use. The brushes can also wear out on the beater bar
.
.Try to work on the vacuum in a well ventilated area. Make sure you unplug the unit so it’s safe to service

The removable filter at the front is cleaned regularly, and is not clogged. However, the machine appears to be suffering from being clogged by dust, as it has started to make a high pitched noise, and I fear it may burn out. I can see some dust inside the front panel but cannot see how to remove the front to clean it out. (NB. I have located two screws – one on either side – but cannot see how to proceed further.) Please help! Thank you.

My vac has lost suction. When I vacuum it picks up very little, but when I remove the wand hose it has good suction. We have cleaned both filters, checked for blockage in all hoses & cleaned the beater bar brush. All to no avail. Is it the motor? Or is there a blockage deep in the vac somewhere? We’re debating repair versus buying a new one. Hope you can help. Thanks.

My eureka optima upright bagless vaccum has VERY low suction using the floor part. the hose has excellent suction. i removed the little translucent door underneath and there were no blockages, i cleaned the brushroll thoroughly and that hasnt helped either. i know this probably isnt recommended but i turned it on to the floor setting with the brushroll off and stuck my fingers up the intake as far as i could, the suction was good further up but it just seems to stop down at the base. because i s
ANSWER : I will try and help here. Is the sole plate on the bottom of the vacuum complety on and there are no visible cracks along the seam where it meets the body? This is the usual cause for this. Onc you take of the plate to access the roller and brushes, if this is not put on correctl you will lose suction. Look for any other openenings that can cause a air leak.

I have a DC07 and the brush wasn’t rotating and I had no suction at the brush but perfect suction through the hose. I noticed a large build up of dog hair around the brush so I took off the cover plate and removed all the hair, cleaned inside the floor/brush housing and cleaned out the hose. I also cleaned the filter and removed the other air access cover and made sure that they were clear. I put everything back and the brush still doesn’t turn and there is still no suction through the bottom

No Water My Bissell rug shampooer does not eject water or saop whan I pull the saop trigger on the handle. I checked both filters and they are clean. Then, I removed the container that sucks up the water and pulled the saop trigger, water barely came out of the tubes. I tried to clean the rug in our family room and the rug was not wet when I finished, no water coming out to clean the rug. HELP HELP HELP!!! I live in Colorado is there a Bissell repair shop near Denver, HELP!!! Thanks Dominick ema
ANSWER : Does water squirt out of the hose nozzle, if it does, then check the heater inside the handle asm. Make sure that where the tubes hook up to it are not clogged. If water doesn’t squirt, check for the seal at the bottom of the tank, it needs to be on the tank, not in the hole, this is for the soap bottle also, there is a seal on the bottom of it as well. The flow indictor cap is leaking air or maybe is too tight. If you had the top cover off, make sure that the tubes are routed right so as not to get pinched when the cover is put back on, the smart mix knob should be in the water setting and that the piston is on the bottom of the smart mix knob. Pump is bad. Try running a mix of vinegar and water to see if that unclogs the lines. Is the top cover and the base tight together in the back, sometimes the top breaks loose and it will raise up and it can’t spray, just re-fasten it down.
