How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Often, a belt breaks because the machine is running over the edge of a rug or other thick items, perhaps even the vacuum cord. This causes “snagging.” When this happens, the belt becomes stuck and usually overheats. Unfortunately, this results in immediate breakage.
If too much hair, string, or lint is caught in the brushroll, the brushroll can get stuck. If the brushroll is stuck, it will put too much strain on the belt and may cause the belt to break. Remove the brushroll and clean out any debris from the bearings. After replacing the brushroll, make sure that it turns freely.
If your agitator brush roll on your Dyson DC07 isn`t turning correctly even though the motor runs smoothly, a snapped or worn out drive belt may be causing trouble. If the drive belt in your vacuum cleaner has either perished or damaged, don`t fret it`s fairly simple to replace.
The belt is located inside the vacuum cleaner and helps to power the brush roll. If the belt ever breaks, the brush roll will not spin and the vacuum will not work properly. There is a lot of confusion out there about whether or not the Dyson Ball vacuum has a belt. The answer is yes, it does have a belt.
Rough Roads and High Speeds

Every hit and bump a tire experiences contributes to its degradation. Continued abuse will weaken the belts to the point that they begin to fail. Avoid gravel roads and hitting potholes at high speeds as much as possible.

The most common failure mode of belts is a broken belt caused by improper tensioning. There is a tension at which the belt experiences optimum service life. Above this tension belt fatigue translates into a decrease in belt life; below this tension belt slip results in reduced belt life.
If the timing belt snaps, there is nothing to stop the pistons and cylinders from colliding. This throws the rods off, and they start to poke holes in the engine block. Eventually, the engine will essentially break in half, and there`s no way to repair it. This is complete engine failure, and will require a new engine.
Next to the motor, the belt on your vacuum is just about the most important part of your vacuum. Without the belt to spin the brushroll, most vacuums won`t pick up on carpeting at all! If your vacuum uses a rubber belt, check it once a month for cracks, melting, and especially, slippage.

The main difference between the Dyson V8 Animal and V8 Absolute is that the V8 Animal is designed to powerfully suck up and eliminate pet hairs.
The Dyson Ball Animal 2 has only one cleaning mode, so there`s no way to adjust the suction level. By comparison, the Dyson Ball Animal 3 has three power modes for different types of flooring. There`s one cleaning mode for low-pile carpets, one for deep- and medium-pile carpets, and one for hard floors.
Today, most serpentine belts are expected to last anywhere from 60,000 to 100,000 miles. Some belts can last significantly longer than this, while others give out before 60,000 miles. Make sure to check your owner`s manual to find out the recommended belt replacement time frame.
Your car cannot run with a broken timing belt . By the time the belt snaps, the damage is already done, and you will not be able to drive at all. You will need to have the vehicle towed to an auto repair workshop.
If the pulley is operating at an abnormal angle it will create excessive wear on one side of the belt. In extreme cases, a seized pulley can break off its mount. Any pulley misalignment or misalignment in the system can cause belt chirp and will accelerate belt wear.
Improper belt tension is the most common and obvious cause of slip, which generates unwanted heat. The friction that occurs when a V-belt slips in a pulley causes belt sidewalls to become glazed, and decreases gripping ability.
A good rule of thumb is to replace your V-Belt every 30,000 miles, while your serpentine belt and timing belt should be replaced every 50,000, although these numbers vary depending on the make and model of your car. Hoses should typically be replaced every four years.
Of the parts that will eventually need to be replaced in your vehicle, the serpentine belt is one of the most important. How long does a serpentine belt last? Being made of durable rubber, a serpentine belt can last anywhere from around 50,000-100,000 miles.
Improper use and handling, inadequate tension, using the wrong grit, and low-quality or worn-out sanding belts can all contribute to premature belt breakage. Correct usage, applying the right grit for the application, and investing in a quality product can all reduce the risk of sanding belt damage.
TYPICAL CONVEYOR BELT LIFESPAN

Most belts last at least three years. If they need replacing more frequently either there`s something wrong with how the system was designed, there are serious issues with the system, or the belt is wrong for the application.

Usually, a car belt lasts between 30,000 to 40,000 miles. But it will also depend on how much you use your car, how frequently you use your AC, and other factors. Make sure to a your professional mechanic if your AC belt needs to be replaced.
A typical price for Vacuum Belts is $6 but can range from approximately $4.99 to $26.
The company is going to focus on its smaller, battery powered models, it said. It made the announcement as it revealed its new Cyclone V10 cordless vacuum, which it says is “why we`ve stopped developing corded vacuums”.
Ultimately, unlike bagged vacuum cleaners, the performance of Dyson machines won`t be compromised the more you vacuum. Our machines are engineered with six layers of advanced whole machine filtration, which means that we capture 99.97% of microns as small as 0.3 microns.
A clog is a common (perhaps the most common) reason that a Dyson unit loses suction. They have a number of choke points in the airflow paths. Some considerations follow: Hoses: because of their often rough inner surfaces and inevitable bends, hoses are prime locations for clogs.

ANSWER : I would guess you aren’t centering the belt correctly, thus it’s edge is caught between the brush and another solid object, causing the breakage.
.When you get the belt on the the brush and the brush back in place, turn the brush a few times by hand to make sure it’s not catching on anything. After you get the powerhead put back together, do this again. It’s a common problem if the powerhead isn’t assembled correctly.
