Most cases of a jammed or stuck brush bar are quick and easy to fix, simply pulling the debris gently from the brush bar. Alternatively, if you need to clear a problematic blockage, you can take the brush bar out of the housing easily, for quick maintenance.
Brush Head Bearings Are Clogged or Have Failed

These are symptoms of bad or dirty bearings. You should remove the brush roll or rolls from the vacuum. Check to see that the bearings at the end of the brush roll allow it to spin freely. Make sure that there is no hair trapped in the bearings.

It turns the main brush on and off. Sorry, there was a problem.
The rotary brush in the cleaner head of your Dyson V7 spins at high speeds and helps to beat and dislodge the dirt out of your carpets.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on. Please note: In normal use, the Brush bar automatically turns off when the machine is upright and automatically turns on when the machine is in the vacuuming position.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
Inspecting the Vacuum Commutator for Motor Brush Problems

Test that by turning the motor off and pushing on the center shaft, the armature. If it has any play, besides spinning, then replace the motor. If solid then replace the brushes – motor brush replacement instructions.

1. Motorized Brush Head. Sometimes called the “power nozzle,” this large attachment has a rotating brush to clean carpets more like an upright.
Press and hold the power button on the machine and the remote together for 10 seconds. The LED screen will count down from 10. Once this count down has been completed, the machine will have been reset.
From Left to Right: Round Volumising Brush – Long, fine bristles direct air deep into the hair to give body, creating tension to shape hair as it dries. Small round volumising brush – With a slim head and long, fine bristles. Directs air into the strands of hair, while bristles shape hair as it dries.
If your machine has a clutch, the reason the brush bar isn`t spinning is unlikely to be a snapped belt. The clutch allows your brush roll to be turned off (for certain types of hard floors, etc.). First you should check if your brush bar is turned on. Try to turn the knob one click clockwise to the “auto” position.
`Tripped` reset systems are the most common reasons for a brushbar not turning, but there are some other less common reasons too. These include: If the bearings on the end of the brushbar have seized, you won`t be able to turn it at all. This will often result in a broken belt as well, so be aware of this.
If your brush is scratching your floor, or not cleaning as well as it used to, then you may want to replace your brush bar.
If the machine will no longer efficiently pick items up, the filter might be dirty. If after cleaning the filter your vacuum is still not sucking things up, turn your vacuum around and pull the red tab at the bottom of your Dyson out.
If you find that your machine is turning off intermittently, the filter in your vacuum is most likely full and covering the ventilation system. Remove the filter, then empty and wash it. Allow the filter to dry for at least 24 hours, or until it is completely dry.

One of the first things to do when your Dyson vacuum cleaner keeps starting and stopping is to empty the bin. It may be full, or the machine may simply perceive it as too full to continue working. Dyson vacuum cleaners require constant airflow through them to work, and a full bin can stop this from happening.

Now that I just fixed my Lux Legacy canister vacuum, I need help on my other Electrolux Regency Series upright! The vacuum works fine but the rotating brush does not work and the brush motor does not turn on. Tried cleaning the brush and hitting hte reset button to no avail. This upright has a triple setting switch and I checked the each of the wires seem to be attached. Tried rotating the brush by hand and it would not budge. Was going to “encourage” the brush to turn with a set of articula
ANSWER : There are a couple rectangular holes on the bottom of the power nozzle, beside the wheels. These have tabs in them that need released with a standard screwdriver.
.rogerpotts_10.jpg.Once they release, turn the vacuum over and lift cover of power nozzle at the back. This pulls the front of the cover out of the lip on the “bumper”.
.Once this is done, you’ll need to unscrew the screw at each end of the brush. Lift the brush out and thoroughly clean it, including the ends.
. rogerpotts_9.jpg.
.Check the wiring to make sure they’re connected to the terminals of the motor. Also, check the belt for wear and tear. These belts can last for five years or more, but if it looks bad a good time to replace it is while you have the power head apart.
.When reassembling the vacuum, ensure the belt is fitted properly around the motor shaft and brush.
.Insert the front of the cover first, ensuring the edge fits neatly beneath the lip on the bumper all the way around. It takes a little manipulating to press the back into place. Make sure both tabs click into the locked position. Turn the vacuum over and reinstall screws. Try to rotate brush by hand a few times.
.At this point, plug the vacuum in and turn it on. If the power head doesn’t run, press the reset button. If the power head motor still doesn’t run, it could be due to loose or disconnected wires that lead to the reset switch, a bad reset switch, or even a bad motor. The vacuum needs to be taken to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for further diagnosis and repair.

Dyson 18 slim the rotating brush bar will not rotate. Was working fine until I got the edge of a tablecloth caught in the brush, pulled it out ok but now the brush will not rotate fast, but will rotate by hand . Any ideas.
ANSWER : If the DC18 has a proteted belt then it will have to be replaced by a Dyson engineer or repairer. If the cleaner has a removable sole plate where the beater bar is then remove it and replace the belt – sounds like the belt has snapped and needs to be replaced. if your DC18 is still relatively new it should still be under guarantee.

F7220-900 The brushes do not rotate, motor seems to run properly. Brushes did rotate very slowly but stopped when put on floor. Brushes rotate when turned by hand.
ANSWER : Clean the lint filter first. Remove both tanks. Lay the cleaner down(unplugged from power of course) Below the brushes(directly behind them) to the right side as you’re looking at the underside is the filter. Squeeze the filter frame, lift it and pull out. Wipe it clean and replace. Next clean the brushes. Take hold of the brush assembly and pull firmly. Clean under running water. On reassembly you may need to rotate the brushes slightly in order to refit the assembly.
Last, make sure the brush selector switch is “on”

No matter how many new belts we put in the brush will not rotate when it touches the floor. If you hold it straight up the brush rotates like crazy. Why is the brush not cleaning the floor. Yes, I have the right belt. It is R we have the boss. 12 amps. Model 4870
ANSWER : There is probably an accumulation of slippery stuff on the shaft that drives the belt. You can scrape it clean with a sharp knife or a razor blade. You might need to use some kind of solvent to get it clean, and if you do, be sure to follow up with something like Windex on a rag. You don’t want to leave anything oily on the shaft.
