How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Unwrap the power cord from the handle. Remove the 56.0 mm Phillips head #2 screw located above the water tank cap. Pull the handle to separate it from the body.
The Shark steam mop claims to turn ordinary water into superheated steam that removes everyday dirt and grime. It`s also supposed to sanitize 99.9% against germs and bacteria, leaving behind the days of messy mops and heavy buckets thanks to the washable microfiber pads that lift and lock-in dirt.
Our testing has found that all steam mops remove stains fairly well, with marginal differences, and are likely slightly better than a regular mop and bucket due to the heat and vapour produced by the steam.
What Should I Use? Good quality tap water. If you don`t have issues with hard water stains and buildup, your tap water is good.
The Shark Floor Steamer, also known as the Euro-Pro Shark Steam Mop, is a device for cleaning tile, wood and other hard surface floors that uses heat to lift off stains. It can also be used on carpet with an extra attachment.
First, check to make sure the unit is plugged in and is in a working outlet. Next, check to make sure there is water in the tank. It is very important to make sure you are ONLY using water to fill the tank. Other solutions may cause breakdown of the gasket and/or other parts of the machine.
The Shark Pocket steam mop cleans through one main method; steam being pressed out through the cleaning pad. The cleaning process is quite simple: Fill water tank with distilled water. Plug the unit in and give it 30 seconds to heat up.
Mop handles without frames are often called telescope or telescopic poles. They can be screwed or pressed into various mop frames and heads to allow full customization and can extend and retract to fit any user`s height.
A mop (such as a floor mop) is a mass or bundle of coarse strings or yarn, etc., or a piece of cloth, sponge or other absorbent material, attached to a pole or stick. It is used to soak up liquid, for cleaning floors and other surfaces, to mop up dust, or for other cleaning purposes.
Do: Wipe up excess dirt before steaming. Steam mops essentially employ steam to loosen grime, which the mop head then clears away, but there`s no suction element in this appliance. This means that surface dirt will need to be vacuumed or swept up before you begin or you`ll only succeed in pushing dirt across the house.
Do steam mops work on tile floors? In general, steam mops can be used on tile floors, including ceramic and porcelain. They will remove dirt from the tile surface, and they can even clean grout.
To prolong the life of your steam mop, we recommend using distilled water in the tank. Make sure you only add water to the tank – chemicals or cleaning solutions (including vinegar) may damage the steam mop and could be unsafe.
We have had some customers who have had their steam cleaners for 5-8 years and are still going strong. For less expensive models like the steam mops or handhelds, you should probably expect more like 3-6 years of consistent use.
So, where does the dirt go when you steam clean? Actually, it doesn`t go anywhere. Instead, the heat and vapour of steam cleaning ensure that all the unwanted substances or stains are fully broken down and easy to get rid of.
While you can use a steam mop on the carpet, you shouldn`t. Steam mops are for hard floor surfaces. They release steam which loosens up dirt. Then, when you run the mop head over the area, it wipes it away.
Soap only lifts dirt and oil into water, making them suspend in water. Therefore, the more soap you use, the more your mop gets saturated with dirt. So, if you do not remove all the soapy water from the floor, the dirt remains, forming streaks on the floor.
The manual recommends distilled water. Water contaminants will clog the steam nozzle, which is applicable to the question about additives. Spray cleaners like 409, etc. on the extreme dirt areas of the floor or surface before steaming.
The spray tip may be clogged. Use a paperclip and insert it into the spray tip to remove a clog. Now plug back in, making sure you are using a working outlet. You will know, as the Ready light will begin to blink when plugged in.
In the ION P50, there is a release latch on one side of it with an “eject roller” written. Gently push it forward to release the roller. Make sure to have the nozzle low to the ground or have another hand to catch it, so it doesn`t drop to the ground. Once you push the lever, the roller pops out.
In addition to cleaning everyday dirt and grime, Shark claims its Steam Pocket Mop sanitizes floors, removing 99.99% of all household germs and bacteria with just the power of steam. Plus, the super-heated steam dries in 30 seconds, so there’s no wait time for your floor to dry.
Machine-wash the Dirt Grip pads separately with warm water using liquid detergent. FABRIC SOFTENERS as they may damage or leave a coating on the Dirt Grip pads that will reduce their cleaning performance and absorbency.
We get this question all the time, here`s why! Steam Temperature: Good residential units have boiler steam temperature between 240 and 298 degrees Fahrenheit. For serious cleaning avoid any steam cleaner that has a lower average steam temperature.
Using hot water also reduces the drying time after cleaning, which means the areas and items you`ve cleaned are available sooner.

ANSWER : I tried running vinegar through as you would a coffee pot to get rid of hard water scales. This did not work. Then I noticed that the light behind the shark decal on the front of the machine was going off and on. And sure enough as I moved the cord around the light would come off and on. Shark steam pocket mop little or no steam. – Euro-Pro Shark Steam Mop – Gray/ Purple Vacuum
ANSWER : Heatman101’s (D. Floyd Kolb) solution is what i had used in the past with success using a paper clip to punch out the hard water deposit. however recently after about 2 years of owning the steam mop, the fix would only last a couple minutes. tonight, i had to open it 4 times cuz it kept getting clogged (each time I’d more vigorously try to scrape a larger opening). the final time i used some vinegar on the paperclip and i poured some into the entryway as well. the steam mop worked perfectly for the rest of the rooms in my house with a lot of steam coming out. not sure when it’ll clog again though. HTH others.

I loved my Shark Steam Pocket Mop, but it suddenly stopped producing steam through the mop heads. The water is heating and I can see and hear steam coming out of the actually body of the mop, but it will not go through to the head. I have thought of running white vinegar through it. Do you have any suggestions?

My Europro shark steam mop won’t steam, light on but no steam.
ANSWER : Hard water deposits. I ran some white vinegar through mine, like a coffee maker, and it worked for a while, but clogged again. So I unplugged it, let it cool and turned it over in the bathtub and squirted a small amount of Lime-Away into the hole where the steam comes out. Let it soak for 5- 10 minutes and it is working like is is brand new.
