is getting longer and longer. Almost seems this time when I change the outlet it is plugged into it works. But then shuts off quicker than it was doing before. I’m getting very frustrated.

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Loose wires at the terminal screw, damaged wire insulation or burned wiring will cause an outlet to stop working. Additionally, wires that are connected at the stab-in connection are known to loosen with time, and wires at the connectors can also become loose.
Your outlet may be subject to a bad connection, which could`ve caused it to stop working. Outlets are installed using a box, and this box could run into issues such as a loose connection or damaged screws. If an outlet`s box can`t provide enough power, the outlet will cease to work.
You might be overloading that particular circuit with too many appliances or devices working at the same time. Or, there could be a problem with your wiring or circuit breaker itself. If your outlet is not working, but the breaker is not tripped either, there might be an issue with your circuit breaker.
Low voltage from household outlets typically stems from a worn-out or damaged fixture. Over years of use, outlets sustain wear and tear just like other frequently used items. Over time, plugging and unplugging cords causes the connections within the plug to loosen, which wears away the outlet.
A bad connection, outdated wiring, or a tripped circuit breaker can cause a malfunctioning outlet.
A circuit breaker can fail without tripping and is an indication it needs to be replaced. It can also mean there are wiring issues with the circuit itself, such as exposed/loose wiring, overheating, and unregulated voltage.
If it doesn`t trip immediately but trips later when your devices power up, it means that you have an overloaded circuit. An overloaded circuit happens when you pull more amps than your electrical system can handle.
Turn off the power to the circuit and unscrew the faceplate and identify the ground, neutral, and hot wires. Start by stripping corroded wires to reveal shiny copper and tightening the screws that hold the wires in place. This tends to solve problems due to a poor connection.
If the voltage is too low, the amperage increases, which may result in the components melting down or causing the appliance to malfunction. If the voltage is too high, this will cause appliances to run `too fast and too high` which will shorten their service life. Leads, cables, cords and power lines are not at risk.
Circuit breakers come in 3 types:

Type 1 are auto resettable, and once tripped, will attempt to reset the circuit, or `cycle`, as the internal elements of the breaker cool down. Type 2 (trip and hold) are called modified reset, and will remain tripped until the power is removed from the breaker.

Overloaded Circuits

The most common cause of a tripped circuit breaker is an overload in that circuit. Each circuit is only intended to carry a certain electrical load, and if it exceeds this load, it will cause the breaker to trip.

Short circuit: When a circuit breaker won`t reset or trips immediately after resetting, a short circuit is a likely cause. This is when a hot wire carrying a current touches a neutral wire. The circuit breaker detects this problem and trips as a safety mechanism.
If the breaker trips again you may have a short circuit or overloaded circuit, which will need to be checked out by a local licensed residential electrician. A circuit breaker that refuses to reset even after being turn to the `off` position and back on may be broken and will need to be replaced.
Is an Overloaded Outlet Dangerous? According to the National Agricultural Safety Database, overloaded outlets are a leading cause of house fires. Plugging in more appliances than the circuit can handle causes it to overheat and leads to damaged wiring.
How many devices can you plug into one outlet? A standard rule of thumb is that you can plug in two to three devices at a time into a single socket. To begin with, there are a few things you need to think about before adopting this rule. The most important factor is the amperage of the circuit breaker.
A bad connection, outdated wiring, or a tripped circuit breaker can cause a malfunctioning outlet. But there are instances where only half of an electrical outlet works and the other one doesn`t. It can happen for multiple reasons, and it is wise to call an electrician to look into the issue.

The problem has been getting worse. It works, then cuts off. Then works and cuts off. Making sure the canister is not full. Time b/w it working is getting longer and longer. Almost seems this time when I change the outlet it is plugged into it works. But then shuts off quicker than it was doing before. I’m getting very frustrated.
ANSWER : We had exactly the same problem with our Animal. After the motor was replaced under warranty a different engineer came out and diagnosed it as the cyclone chamber itself being clogged.(the bit with the purple cylinders on it). This is completely unserviceable and it too was replaced under warranty – along with a second motor! Not the answer you wanted I’m sure but you’re wasting your time looking for a problem elsewhere. Ultimately the motor is pulling through a clogged chamber and you will burn it out! Hope this helps…

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly
ANSWER : The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.

Hooked everything up per directions. I plugged it in to the closest electrical outlet and nothing happened. The lights did not light up, the connected wall control and sensors leds do not light up. It appears the unit doesn’t have power. The electrical outlet socket is fine as everything else I plug into it works fine. I have tried every other electrical outlet available. The unit won’t power on from any outlet, and all of those outlets run other things, like power tools an refrigerators
ANSWER : Dear Davehibshman,

Firstly; dismantle the plug and replace the fuse with the same rating as the one you have just taken out. Replace the plug cover, put the plug into the socket and try again. If this doesnt work, there may be a problem with the internal fuse (if one is fitted). Two choices here, either refer this unit to a qualified service personnel/ the place where you got it from, or do the job yourself (which will save you a whole bunch of cash). In your circumstances, I would take it back to the place you got it and ask them to put the fault right, or replace the unit completely; if it is past its warranty or guarantee time, then get back to me with a make and model number of the unit, and I will give you step-by-step instructions on how to solve this.

Yours sincerely

Hoover floormate Hi, I’m not sure what the model number is on my Hoover Floormate, but I can’t get the cleaning liquid to dispense. The vacuum(dry pickup works fine). The handle squeezes without a problem. It used to work without a problem and then I didn’t use it for awhile. When I came back to it, it wasn’t working. Thanks, Alissa
ANSWER : The tank sits on what is called the reservior asm. it is actuated by the control rod inside the handle. With the tank off, watch and see if you can see that rod hitting the reservior asm when you squeeze the trigger. If it is moving up and down on it, then the resorvior asm may be bad. Also check the valve at the bottom of the tank, manually push it in and see if it releases water.

When we turn on the vacuum, the canister falls open. The clips holding the canister in place do not seem to hold the canister tightly which I’m sure that it did in the past. The clips do not look bent, but every time we turn on the vacuum the intense pressure blows the canister open only remaining attached the the rest of the vacuum by one clip
ANSWER : Check filter and make sure it is kept clean at regular intervals. Possibly worn out clip retainers on cannister side due to excessive pressure build up. Do not force closure unless pressure is back to normal. May crack cannister or damage unit beyond repair.

How can I get my DAB radio working again?
I have a Sony XDRS100CD with DAB radio. The DAB radio has stopped working although I can still use the CD and get FM radio. The unit has a readout on the front that usually shows the time and this stopped working too, presumably because it got the time via the DAB radio.
The unit works from mains and batteries although I have only ever used it on mains.
ANSWER : I have the same problem… did you ever get a fix..

I cleaned out my brush in the bottom front, cleaned out the small tubing going into the canister, and the canister itself. I also changed the filter.I snapped everything back into place, but Since then, it doesn’t seem to have any suction and there seems to be a space between the canister and the bottom of the vacumm where the canister sits. At that area, you can feel air coming out when trying to vacumm and it just doesn’t pick up, it seems to be just blowing stuff around.
ANSWER : You need to really look at it some thing is out of line you shooed not have
.any spaces in the top or bottom
.pull the canister back out and look at the pins that you lined up with the
.top and the canister you might have missed arrows that need to be lined
.up so it fits tightly in its holder
.ive had the same problem with my hover mach5

We have the Kenmore progressive direct drive (bagless) and have had it for about 3 years. We have taken good care of it, and paid quite a bit for it hoping that it would last for a good long time. It has started making a noise that seems to be an overflow air type of noise coming out of a bottom air outlet opening for when the air flow is blocked. We have looked into clogs, changed filters, and the whole works, to no avail! Quite Frustrating since I love this purple vacuum! The machine started
ANSWER : There has to be a clog or block somewhere – if the motor works, it should work did you try a wire coat hanger to go up in further where you cannot see?
