How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Most Dyson vacuums have a built in safety system that stops the machine if it begins to overheat. This usually happens because the filters need washing or your machine is blocked. Carry out the performance checks, and if your machine cuts out unplug and leave for at least 2 hours to cool down.
Thermal cut out has activated

Your cleaner has been fitted with a thermal cut out to protect the vacuum cleaner from damage should it get too hot and overheat. Blockages or dirty filters may cause this to happen, the safety cut off will activate and switch off the electrical supply.

A Dyson handheld that keeps cutting out is known as pulsing. A Dyson V7 pulsing problem can be very frustrating! A few reasons why your Dyson is pulsing are potential blockages or problems with the bin or filter.
The Outsize vacuum cleaner is armed with an intuitive Hyperdymium motor that hits up to 220 Air Watts in Boost Mode, giving Dyson`s upright and canister vacuums a run for their money.
We measured the power consumption of the heating function of the Dyson Pure Hot + Cool air purifier. The air purifier consumes: Low level approx. 1950 watts.
All the Dyson Air Multiplier™ fans run at a maximum of 65W. Thats a 95% energy saving compared to portable airconditioning. Blades cause buffeting The blades on conventional fans cause unpleasant buffeting because they chop the air before it hits you. No blades.
Now the Dyson DC07 Animal has two filters, we have the pre-motor filter here to the left of the bin and directly underneath the bin here is where the HEPA filter or post-motor filter is located.
The DC07 had a long production run from 2001 until 2008, and came in many different colour combinations.
The Dyson digital motor V7 spins at up to 110,000rpm – five times faster than a Formula One car engine. Producing up to 100 Air Watts, it generates powerful suction.
A thermal cutoff is an electrical safety device (either a thermal fuse or thermal switch) that interrupts electric current when heated to a specific temperature. These devices may be for one-time use (a thermal fuse), or may be reset manually or automatically (a thermal switch).
Temperature limiters, also called overheating protection, are used as a safety precaution to avoid overheating. They usually have a fixed temperature level, which breaks the voltage when the temperature is reached. Temperature limiters are available in both electronic and mechanical versions.
Since, radiation is in the form of electromagnetic waves, it does not require any medium and hence, the waves can pass through vacuum. Hence, the heat transfer through vacuum happens through radiation.
Hot environments speed up battery aging. So it`s best to avoid cleaning the car in hot weather or leaving your vacuum in rooms that experience direct sunlight for prolonged periods. The same goes for cold porches and garages in winter.
Turn Off Max Extra Power Mode:

Sometimes your vacuum pulsates on and off or keeps dying when using the extra powerful `Max Mode`, which can be related to the charge of your battery. Try turning this function off by pressing the Max button on your vacuum.

Sadly, most Dyson cleaners do not feature a reset switch. So the best way to resolve the problem is to unplug the machine and let it rest and cool down for a minimum of one hour. This automatically resets the appliance and makes it ready for use.
Check the Circuit

Check the vacuum cleaner to see if it tripped a circuit breaker or blew a fuse. Check the circuit breakers, or fuses and, if it has tripped a circuit breaker or blown a fuse, simply re-set the breaker, or replace the fuse, and switch the vacuum on again.

If your dyson vacuum isn`t turning on, don`t panic – there are a couple possible causes. It could simply be that the vacuum overheated and shut itself off. If that is the case, wait 24 hours and turn it back on. However, another problem with dysons are failed power switches.

Dyson vacuum turned off while vacuuming – Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
ANSWER : Hi There,
Assuming if you leave it for an hour and come back to it that it works again you have an airflow issue. This machine will cut out if the motor gets too hot. The likely causes are 1. Filters – take them out and give a good clean once dry you can try them again. 2. Blockage – Remove your u-bend and the blockage removal access check for an obstruction.3. Radix assembly is blocked. I will post a link to a YouTube video showing how to address this as it is a bit more difficult.
If your machine wont turn back on after a rest then your options are 1. Cord problem (most likely)2. Switch (unlikely)3. Motor

I have a video for just about all these problems on my youtube channel under VacuumSpot or VacuumSmart. If this is a step in the right direction please lay a thumbs up on the videos 🙂
