How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
A telltale sign that the bag is full is if your vacuum cleaner`s suction power is not as powerful. If you`re noticing dirt and debris left behind despite running the vacuum over a few times, it`s time to switch out your bag.
Most dishwashers will have an average lifespan of around 5 – 10 years but a Miele could last up to 20 years.

.This is where a vacuum that won’t run without a bag would have been nice. (Aerus for one)
.Check your hose you have something stuck in the hose…stretch it out straight and run something through it to push out whatever is stuck in there…

.Detach the hose, turn vacuum on. If it runs, place palm of hand against inport hole. If it shuts off the problem is with either the control valve setting or the control valve assembly itself.
.For cvs, turn dial on top of vacuum all the way to the largest dot, and try above test again. If that doesn’t work, then it’s the CVA. It needs to be cleaned or replaced, which is an in shop job. Fro repair, take it to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store. I recommend a full clean and service to remove any dust/dirt from the motor, fan assembly, and other internal parts.
.
.Another problem, which relates to the dial setting, is that fine dust will quickly clog the pores of the bag, resulting in the machine “thinking” the bag is full. Turning the dial to the proper setting helps get the bag fuller. The middle setting is the normal setting, and is for areas without fine dust and sand.
You cannot do anything to bypass this problem from outside the machine.
This is not a repair that you can make yourself. You should look in your local yellow pages for Aerus (new name for electrolux) under vacuum cleaners, or go to www.aerusonline.com and find your local dealer. It is not too expensive to have fixed, it is a common issue with later model electroux vacuums.
.
.You can try a test to see if it the valve. Remove the bag from the vacuum, look at the back of the bag holder near the motor, in the upper right or left depending on your model. You will see a very small hole 1/16 or an inch or so. Put a piece of tape of some sort to close off the hole. Replace the bag, turn on the vacuum, if it is a bad valve, the tape will override the bag full action, and the vacuum will run.
.
.It is not advisable to run the vacuum this way since it will overheat, damage the thermostat, and can destroy the motor. A motor will cost over $200.00, the valve can be replaced for a lot less….

There is a so-called “bag full indicator”, which will only turn red if it got some major blockage. This is the reason why there is no power suction.
The “full bag sensor is just a spring mechanism that springs closed when there is a blockage. Remove the bag and look for clogs. When using it, check the bag and change it when full, not go by the “bag full indicator.”
Good luck, I hope this helps.
