If your Dyson vacuum refuses to turn on, its battery might not be charged. Charge the vacuum`s battery for at least two hours. After the battery is fully charged, power on the vacuum and try using it again.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on.
Over time, all batteries are subject to degradation. So if your run time has declined when the machine is not in Max / Boost mode, it might be time to buy a new battery. All our machines come with a 2-year initial warranty that includes the battery.

Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
If all you hear from the vacuum unit is a click at the when you try to start the vacuum motor from inside the house, then the motor in the unit is dead and has to be replaced. A strong odor from the shellac, which coats the copper coil windings, is an indicator that the motor is about to or has burnt out.
When your Dyson no longer powers on even after charging the most likely cause is a damaged battery. This means the battery will no longer hold a charge and will need to be replaced. Once a new battery is purchased you can learn how to replace it by visiting our battery replacement page here.
If you find that your machine is turning off intermittently, the filter in your vacuum is most likely full and covering the ventilation system. Remove the filter, then empty and wash it. Allow the filter to dry for at least 24 hours, or until it is completely dry.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.
Besides getting jammed with dirt and debris, the major problem that cordless vacuums face is a weak battery or failing recharger. Some cordless vacuum batteries are easily replaced while others are not and require that the entire unit be replaced.
The problem may lie in your vacuum cleaner`s adapter, charging dock, or battery and the electrical outlet. Try plugging your vacuum cleaner in to another outlet. If it is now working, the problem was in the first outlet that you have used. You should contact a certified electrician if you need to fix that outlet.
Don`t leave it fully charged (only recharge it fully just before you need to use it). When it`s not in use, a battery at 100% charge loses capacity faster than one that`s only partially charged.

The machine can be charged on the dock or by plugging the charger directly to the machine. The light on the charger will show when the machine is being charged and will go out when charging is complete. The battery should be fully charged after 3.5 hours. Is there anything else we can help you with?
The most common cause of no power is the machine overheating and cutting out. In this case once the vacuum cleaner loses power leave it for at least half an hour and then try turning it back on again. If it comes back on again after an hour then clean your filters and check for blockages.

Have an older model Electrolux canister model. The electric plug is broken so I got a new plug to put on. When I cut the cord to replace the plug, the dang cord retracted into the unit. So how do I get access to the cord area so i can find the end to the cord!

Electrolux Centralux I have a Electrolux Centralux. When I plug the hose in at one of the wall outlets the motor will not start. If I go to the motor and slap the unit it will start…..then…it will not stop unless I unplug the power cord to the motor. If I plug the power cord back in, the unit will not restart until I slap the motor unit again. The unit has only been used 20 – 30 times. Any suggestions?? Thanks, Bruce
ANSWER : I dont know if you had your unit looked at yet but it sounds like the Power module is going. I repair the machines so I know some of the work.

Placing the handle of my Dyson DC07 into its upright and locked position causes the beater bar to stop turning. It will not start turning until the handle is first lowered to the working position and the Carpet/Bare knob is moved to the Bare Floor position and then back to the Carpet position. Then the beater bar turns until the handle is placed into the upright position. What might be the problem?
ANSWER : Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The brush control is designed to switch the brush bar off automatically when you stand the machine back into the upright position. It is designed this way to protect any delicate floor surfaces when you have the machine switched on and upright and when you are using the hose.

If the brush control should be in the centre position and move forward to the “on” position when you release the head. If it is not doing this, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards

Unit will not turn on when the cord in plugged in and on/off switch is set to depressed (on) position.
ANSWER : This could be a faulty cable or switch, but could also be a faulty motor.
The motor also has a built in over-current protection device which normally automatically resets itself, but if the motor has a serious fault or the over-current device itself is faulty then this could be the cause of the lack of continuity.
Both the switch and motor are available quite cheaply on eBay2_bing.gif, but fitting new ones requires good DIY skills (especially the motor), and some unusual tools (Torx drivers).
Have a look at www.dysonmedic.com which has some great info on repairing your machine, but if you dont feel you can repair it yourself, time to call a vacuum repairer or the Dyson helpline

Vacuum won’t turn on when plugged in and switch is turned on
ANSWER : The easy answer to this problem is you need a new cord. Any fit all 20 to 35 foot two wire cord will work. However, you will need to take disassemble the almost the entire vacuum to test the current cord to see if it is bad. There are a lot of pieces to take off to get to the inside of the vacuum where the cord enters from the back. You could also have a bad motor.

Hoover Windtunnel On/Off switch will not turn Off…Switch seems to work O.K. when pressed directly but not with handle switch…It will turn on but not off..Cam seems to be intact on switch actuator..How does switch come out? Thanx
ANSWER : Take the handle off, then remove the tool holder, then you can get to the switch. Just has tabs on each side of switch, depress them and push it out. These switches will do this after awhile, replacing them is usually the way to correct the problem.
