Why does my Shop-Vac® wet dry vac blow dust back into my room? The dust isn`t being stopped by the filter and is being exhausted out of the blower port and back into the air. This can be caused by a hole in the filter, the filter not being properly installed, or the dust being too fine for the filter.
The filter can be washed and, if dried properly, reused. Changing shop vac filters often is strongly recommended to increase the vac`s performance and to help extend vacuum life as it protects the motor from harmful dust and debris.
If you`re vacuuming water, you should take away the filter. Some models will allow you to utilize one specially made for wet cleaning, but only if you`re dealing with a little liquid. In that case, don`t forget to rinse it later and leave it to dry.
Shop vacs fill up and get clogged quickly, particularly in dust heavy locations. Once they start to fill with dust they stop providing as much suction, and can overheat quickly.
Check that the vacuum cleaner is plugged into a working power outlet and that fuses and breakers don`t need resetting. An activated thermal cut-out due to a blockage is the next most likely cause of the problem. Check for blockages in the hose and filters, and remove any obstructions that you find.
Check central vac power unit gaskets and for cracks in housing. Verify the correct voltage is going to power unit. There should be a compliance label on the unit specifying the proper voltage, among other details, such as model and serial numbers. Check for loose wires and a loose motor.
HEPA filters are not designed to be washed and reused. Doing so will cause damage to the fibers which makes the filter ineffective and it will become void of its job. Once a filter has reached the maximum capacity of harmful particles, it will need to be replaced with a fresh, new one.
Rinse the filter
Any fine dust remaining in the filter can usually be removed with a gentle rinse under a cold tap – hold the filter under the running water until the water runs clear. You shouldn`t need to use any detergent – just water.
Since the filter is made of paper, you can clean it with water, but you should let it completely dry before reuse.
So, you should be using dust bags in your shop vac to prevent the filter from clogging up and because it`s easier to empty out all the dust. If you want to go a step further, you can even add a dust separator. It will save your filter even more by filtering out most of the dust before it even hits your vac.

Burning smell can indicate motor damage
If you suspect that the motor is damaged, you should not continue to use the vacuum cleaner! The cause of motor damage is usually wear and tear or damage caused by prolonged improper use (e.g. overheating). In most cases, it is not worth repairing.
Check for a plugged hose:
Plugged vacuum hoses are sometimes the reason for a loss in suction. Hoses can get clogged with hair, dust bunnies, string, or anything else that can`t pass through the other end of the hose. Airways inside the machine should be looked at as well. Wherever there is an air passage, check it.
Oftentimes, you can unclog a toilet using a wet/dry vacuum like a Shop-Vac. However, NO DOT attempt this method with a regular household vacuum. It is not engineered to handle water. Use the wet vac to empty the water from the bowl so it doesn`t overflow or splash out.
The most common problems found in vacuum cleaners are low suction force, excessive noise, burning smell, vacuum not turn on, and overheating. These issues can be fixed by either cleaning the device or replacing some parts of the device. At times, it is best to seek a professional to fix the cleaner effectively.
Besides getting jammed with dirt and debris, the major problem that cordless vacuums face is a weak battery or failing recharger. Some cordless vacuum batteries are easily replaced while others are not and require that the entire unit be replaced.
When you use a vacuum cleaner without a HEPA filter, these particles are stirred up and put back out into the air through your vacuum`s exhaust. Regular filters can`t remove these harmful particulates and this puts the people in your home at risk.

LlllSteam vac ws working very well–shilfted to using hand vac on furniture–when I shiftead back to wanting to use the floor vacuum using the 6
brushes and the floor vac system, the r6 rotaty
brushes will not turn or function. What do IO havae to do to get them to turn and function?

ANSWER : What is the exact model number of that unit. There are several with that name. The only things that it could be are the handle mechanism that activates the brushes or the indicator is not working nad the level that selects the brushes is not working. The unit has no belts.
