Kenmore 34923 / 34925 Progressive Bagged Upright Vacuum\015 My vaccum sucked up a ribbon while vaccuming. i stopped the vaccum and pulled the ribbon out. when i restarted the vaccum it smelled like it was burning and the brush on the bottom was not spinning. also, there was no suction so it was not cleaning. The Vacuum is not sucking anything up. The suction seems weak. Hot air is coming out of the filter, but nothing is being sucked up. I have taken the hose out to convert it to the attachment mode and still get nothing being sucked up..\015
How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
If your vacuum was working fine and then suddenly shut off, it may have overheated. Most vacuums are equipped with a thermal protector safety switch that won`t allow the motor to run when it becomes overheated. You will need to wait for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your machine, to try again.

.We unscrewed the three screws on the back and took the hose off of the vacuum. Then we took the hose outside and put the water hose through the vacuum hose and turned on the water. After about 30 second the water pushed through a dust bunny the size of a fist and a marker. Basically, the vacuum did not have suction because the hose was clogged with dust, etc. After reassembling the vacuum, it worked just fine. .
.did it stop while using it? might have overheated due to dirty filters… strange that the light comes on but no motor at all… that would suggest to me that the motor is shot…

.I eventual gave in to curiosity and removed the three screws in the top or the yellow removable dust collection tube and cyclone bit to see what was in there. The mechanism to release the flap at the bottom of the collection tube does not allow you to remove the lid completely but it does open far enough to get inside. I found the whole top section of the yellow plastic bit blocked by a big plug of compacted dust and a champagne cork. If you are willing to take the risk and have a torx 15 screwdriver handy it that part may be blocked. It did get a bit messy.
.
.If I was going to attempt the same procedure I’d remove the dust collection unit from the vacuum cleaner as I did before, but leave the clear tube attached and the emptying flap firmly closed to reduce the mess from the dust falling out the bottom while cleaning the top part.
