Dyson DC14 All floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum\015 I have a dyson DC04, I believe. It’s yellow. It has recently started making a high pitched noise when you turn it on and it smells like the motor is burning. It still sucks up stuff, but I don’t want to run it for very long becuse of the noise and the smell. The roller still spins freely. Is the motor going out? If so, would it be cheaper to buy a new vacuum or to get this one repaired? I’ve had the vacuum for about 3.5 years now.\015

A high pitch whistle could indicate a seal is damaged or the machine is blocked. If the noise occurs without the Wand and Cleaner head, it is likely to be caused by either the bin or cyclone.
What should I do? If your vacuum cleaner whistles, this is usually a sign that your device can`t suck in sufficient air. Often, it`s the dust container or bag that`s full. Check these first and exchange them if necessary.
Sadly, most Dyson cleaners do not feature a reset switch. So the best way to resolve the problem is to unplug the machine and let it rest and cool down for a minimum of one hour. This automatically resets the appliance and makes it ready for use.
I can assure you that air coming out of the Ball is a normal feature of the machine, as this is where HEPA-filtered air is returned to the room. The exhaust air will often feel warm as it will have passed through the motor.

First thing to try is empty your bin and make sure there are no blockages, if that doesn`t solve it then remove the brushbar and then try switching your Dyson back on again. If the noise is normal again then it is your brushbar or possibly clutch if applicable.
Overheating usually occurs because the dust bag has not been emptied, filter has not been cleaned or there is a blockage in the floor tool, wand or bent hand piece. If your vacuum shuts down unexpectedly, make sure you turn the vacuum off and unplug it from the wall socket.
Overheating due to clogged exhaust filter
The exhaust filter can also get clogged, causing a problem with the motor cooling. Therefore, you should also check the exhaust filter if the vacuum cleaner smells burnt. It is usually located on the top or back of the unit, right where the exhaust air comes out.
Check the LED light to determine the battery level. A solid blue light indicates that the machine is in normal operating mode. A flashing blue light indicates that there is no power, and the battery needs to be charged for a minimum of 3.5 hours.

Bad Motor I have purchased two of the Kenmore direct drive beltless systems with Progressive systems. The first died after a year, the vacuum motor start making a grinding noies. I pulled the side HEPA filter and could see a fine coating of graphite like dust. Took it to a vacuum repair shop. They said the brushes were going and thus the motor was shot. Does the smell like rubber or electrical. If rubber, then the belt has stretched and needs to replaced. Motor is sparking and smells like burning rubber. When it first happened I thought the vacuum had something jamming the beater bar. That was the smell it had, like when the belt gets burned. Hello, I have a problem with my Eureka Powerline bagged upright vacuum. It has a 12 amp motor and is model #4352, Type D. It was probably bought new in 1998. My problem is, while vacuuming today the motor seemed to slow down all of the sudden and then began smelling like burning rubber. I shut the vacuum off to check for blockages but could not find anything blocked. When I then turned it on again it runs but seems to only be running at 1/2 the motor speed and still has the rubber buring smell.
ANSWER : It sounds like a rubber sealing in the motor has come loose and is being constantly rubbed against the walls of the motor with would cause the smell and loss of motor speed caused by the fricton of rubber against the rod so if you can get to the motor try to open it and see if you can get it if not take it to a small engine repair service hope this was helpful:)

Makes a loud noise like a grinding noise then smokes comes out and it smells like burning rubber? When I take the (rod) brush off with the belt then run the vacuum there is no more noise? Please help me thank you

High pitch My Hoover fusion vacuum cleaner began making a high pitch sound that makes it very annoying to vacuum. I cleaned all the things I could clean. I even cut out all the hair that was entangled in the brushes. Any idea what is causing the sound. It sounds like an siren is going off.
ANSWER : The Hoover Fusion has design flaws in the motor, including a metal plate that is too thin to contain the forces acting on the motor, particularly the constant strong tension from the drive belt, and a plastic plate that is attached to the metal plate by two screws that gradually loosen over time. Assuming the filters and canister are clean, a high-pitched noise coming from the motor indicates it is about to fail as a result of these problems. You can replace the motor after it fails, but the problem will eventually occur again. For those very mechanically inclined, when the motor first starts making the high-pitched noise, you can dismantle it and tighten all screws.

my beam vacuum makes a very loud roaring noise quite often.
the problem started when i was vacuuming up a quantity of vermiculite from my chimney.
i think i overloaded the vacuum i think and it made this loud roaring noise.
the vacuum tends to make thos noise when i am hoovering after 5 minutes or so.
any ideas?.

ANSWER : If the filter bag is bad and didn’t trap all of the dust, then it got into your motor, so you may have a problem with your motor now.

Burning Smell coming from the moter
ANSWER : This could be a motor problem. There is always a slight blue arcing that occurs when an electrical motor runs and can be visible through the exhaust vent, but any excessive arcing indicates a problem. If the carbon brushes are sticking, this will cause excessive arcing and can be corrected by an experience service person, but if there is any electrical failure, the motor would have to be replaced. There are no parts available for these motors and the expense of replacing an armature (the likely culprit) would be more than the motor. This could also be as simple as a worn belt, but usually, belts will not produce the smell your describing. When a motor is burning out, it will produce an acrid odor that will linger for a long time.
