Dirt Devil Reaction Twin Cyclone Upright Vacuum\015 It shuts down like it’s overheating, but it’s less than 60 days old and the canister is emptied often. I saw in the user guide that it could be the thermal detector, but there is no diagram of where this is or how to fix it. I lost the paperwork for it so they won’t do a return or repair.\015

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
Airflow Issues

If the device is clogged, or the dirt cup is full, this may cause the unit to overheat. Unplug the unit and allow it cool, empty the dirt cup and clean the filter.

Overheated Motor

If your vacuum was working fine and then suddenly shut off, it may have overheated. Most vacuums are equipped with a thermal protector safety switch that won`t allow the motor to run when it becomes overheated. You will need to wait for 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on your machine, to try again.

If you find that your machine is turning off intermittently, the filter in your vacuum is most likely full and covering the ventilation system. Remove the filter, then empty and wash it. Allow the filter to dry for at least 24 hours, or until it is completely dry.
If there is something that has become caught in the hose in another part of the system, the airflow will be reduced and can cause overheating and a shut down. Clear out hoses, attachments, and brushes of any hair, dirt, and debris. This will allow for restored airflow and should get things going again.
Clogged Air Filter/Exhaust Filter

Don`t forget the vacuum does have a maximum capacity of dirt that it can pick up! Make sure you empty the filter and ensure the exhaust filter in the back is empty and clear of obstructions. You can do this by opening the filter chamber, acquire the filter, and empty it into the trash.

Consumer Reviews On Dirt Devil Vacuum Cleaners

Consumers give high marks to some Dirt Devil models like the Breeze canister and the Featherlite bagged vacuum – where both get on average 4 out 5 stars based on over 200 ratings. That means that Dirt Devil has designed the perfect vacuum for the majority of home users.

Easy-empty dirt cup. 4 hour charge time.
It uses light sensing technology to measure the amount of dirt picked up and can thus be used to glean which parts of the house are dirtier than the others. The signals can also potentially be used to understand the size of the dirt picked up by the robotic vacuum cleaner.
THE PROCESS OF VACUUM COOLING EXPLAINED

This process takes away energy in the form of heat from the product, which ensures rapid cooling, normally within 15 – 30 minutes for most products.

Check Your Battery & Charger:

Batteries don`t last forever depending on age and use. You may need to buy a new battery if your Dyson vacuum is turning on and off after only a few minutes of use.

It`s possible there`s a power consumption issue, with there just not being enough residual charge to run the machine. A new battery should fix this. My other thought is that it`s overheating. If too much power is pushed through the motor, which MAX power does, it could stop after a few seconds if it become hot.
Check For Clogs or Blocks In The Vacuum

Check the hoses, the filters, and throughout the vacuum, and clean out any blockages or clogs. Vacuums will likely also have a recommended cooldown time to ensure that the vacuum won`t overheat. You will need to wait for that time before you turn the vacuum back on.

If the vacuum cleaner stops suddenly, the filters should be checked to make sure that they are not blocked or that they require changing. This applies to both bagged and bagless models. Also check if the nozzle or hose are blocked.
A Dyson vacuum cleaner has a lifespan of around 10 years. This is considerably longer than most other vacuums. So, if you`re looking for a high-quality vacuum cleaner that will last you for a long time, a Dyson could be a good choice. However, remember that Dyson vacuums are expensive.
Soil and Plant Debris

Soil and plant debris can clog a vacuum, and damp or wet leaves can lead to mold in the bag or canister, so it`s best to use a broom or your hands to pick those up.

Several things cause a burning smell, such as a motor part is that broken or worn out, the motor is running too hot, you suck up a burning cigarette, or the rubber belt has snapped. The belt helps turn the brush roller that helps guide dirt and debris into the vacuum.
If your Dirt Devil Gator (Model Number: BD10100) isn`t starting or staying on for more than 15 seconds, you may need to replace the battery. Follow this guide to replace the battery to keep your Dirt Devil Gator in use! However before using this guide, you may not need to full replace the battery, just charge it!
Remove the brushroll and clean all hair, string, and lint from the brushroll bearings. If the vacuum cleaner brush still doesn`t spin after you clean the brushroll, consider replacing the brushroll.
Ultimately, a perfect vacuum isn`t possible because quantum theory dictates that energy fluctuations known as `virtual particles` are constantly popping in and out of existence, even in `empty` space. Read more: How can something explode in the vacuum of space?
The Dirt Devil (Dæmonium terra) is an evil incarnate spawned from the ground itself.
Replace filter every 3 to 6 months.
Vacuum cleaners use an electric motor that spins a fan, sucking in air – and any small particles caught up in it – and pushing it out the other side, into a bag or a canister, to create the negative pressure.

Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor,  not contacting the carpeting??  I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting.  Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums
ANSWER : Try replacing the belt. Rubber belts stretch out after about a year.

I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? The vacuum does not appear to be damage
ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.
.
.A reset button is for use if the motor isn’t running, so won’t have anything to do with the suction.

Vacuum shuts down after a short time and needs to cool off before being restarted.
ANSWER : Trash it!

I have no power on a brand new Electrolux Oxygen canister vacuum. This is the second time. After the first time, I took it back to Sears where I bought the vacuum and they gave me a brand new vacuum. This is the second time it’s happened, basically on both units after the time that i brought them home.
ANSWER : Ensure that the tools and the bucket are installed properly, if the bucket is not well in place, the unit wont start.

If the electric power does not come on, disconnect from mains
and check plugs, cable and fuses where appropriate.

If you use always the same socket there may be a problem withthe AC socket, and this may be bloewing the fuse.

We have a Kenmore Progressive Model 116 Upright bagged vacuum with Hepa filter. It’s at least a couple years old. For quite some time now when ever we use the vacuum the vacuum motor will shut off nafter about 5 min. of use. We then need to let it sit for awhile and then we can run it again for another 5 min. The bag has been change. Any one have any ideas how to fix this?
ANSWER : I suspect that you have a restriction. The motor sounds like the thermal break is stopping the motor before damage, due to heat.
.You must witness that the entire suction and discharge side are clear. This is not always very easy, but necessary. I bet that you find something blocking somewhere…

Vacuum shots down after a short time, restarts but runs only a short time
ANSWER : Yes that unit has 2 sensors 1 on the motor and 1 on the relay board 1 of them is bad which is making the vacuum shut its like a heat sensors its malfuctioning it shuts the unit down

Vacuum either stops for no reason and can’t be restarted without unplugging and waiting 1/2 hour to restart, or it simply will not turn on at all. The red light comes on when the “On” button is pressed. I took it back today for the 4th time in a month to where it was purchased. They called later and said it was running fine and they could not detect a problem. The last three times they have (1) replaced the roller brush, (2) “unclogged” the vacuum, and (3) “adjusted” the belt.
ANSWER : This sounds like it might be an overheating problem.
.
.Some vacuum motors are fitted with thermal cut out fuses or thermistors which cut off the flow of electricity to the motor when the temperature gets to high. It is possible that your motor is overheating and causing the thermal fuse to open. When the unit cools down after aan hour or so, the fuse resets / closes again and then it will restart again. It is also possible that the thermal fuse is faulty and is cutting out at too low of a temperature.
.
.These can be replaced if necessary but can require significant disassembly in order to access the motor and fuse. If you are unable to complete this type of troubleshooting / repair work yourself, then you are likely looking at a $75 repair job. Depending on the purchase price of the unit, sometimes it can be more cost effective to simply buy a whole new unit since it would come with a warranty.

The motor is overheating and shutting off — after vacuuming for a short time the vacuum motor shuts off
ANSWER : Sounds like there is a clog somewhere or a filter needs to be cleaned if it has one. Or the bag may need emptied.
