How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Your Vax carpet cleaner may not be picking up water because the machine has picked up too much grime, and has become blocked up. Check around the head of the carpet cleaner for anything obvious that might make the suction on the Vax weaker, or look for clumps of hair that could be caught in the bristles.
If the tank is full then water will start to leak out. Place the cleaner over a sink and pull the drainage cap out underneath the tank to drain out the water. Now move slowly forward with it, holding down the trigger. As you do so, the cleaning solution is released into the pile and the rotating brush bar agitates the fibres, providing deep down cleaning. Then release the trigger and pull the carpet cleaner backwards over the spot you`ve just cleaned.

Use a shop vac that can handle dry and wet messes or a wet vacuum. Shove the hose attachment deep into the carpet to attain as much suction as possible. After vacuuming up as much water as possible with the shop vac, lay down towels and walk on them (your weight will wick the water into the towels).

To reset, remove the Powered Head from the reach wand/handheld and clear any obstruction. Wait 1 minute before refitting the Powered Head, switch the slim vac on and press the brushbar on/off button. Check the user guide for the specific steps for your model.
One of the most common causes for a washer that leaks from the bottom is a leak in the fill and drain hoses. These hoses can become blocked, kinked, damaged or disconnected, resulting in a leak while your washing machine is in use.
A washer leaking from the bottom can cause significant damage to your home if it is not fixed quickly. In most cases, the leak will be caused by a loose or punctured drain hose, a fault with the drain pump, or a worn-out tub-to-pump hose.
Using your carpet cleaner every 6-8 months will not only leave your carpets looking clean and smelling fresh, but it will prolong its life and help to avoid the expensive costs of carpet replacement.
Can you use other carpet shampoo solutions in a Vax machine? One of the most popular questions we get asked is if our carpet cleaning solutions can be used in a Vax machine. The answer – YES, they can!
Can I use a carpet washer on wool carpets? All Vax carpet cleaners when used with our Vax- formulated, WoolSafe approved solutions are safe to use on wool carpets.
Only use Vax carpet solution. Using other solutions may cause excess foaming and will invalidate your guarantee. The clean water tank should only be filled with warm water (max 40°C). Filling the clean water tank with hot/boiling water will damage your machine and invalidate the guarantee.
If your Vax machine has 1 tank for both clean water and carpet cleaner solution, you only need to use 10ml of Dirtbusters Extraction Machine Liquid per Litre of water. E.g. if your tank holds 2.7 Litres, you would use 27ml of solution and fill the rest of the tank with clean, warm water.
However, if you`re dealing with a recurring flooding issue, wet vacuuming could be something to invest in as it can work wonders for wet carpets. Never use a regular vacuum cleaner on liquids as this can easily break them.

A: It has an indefinite shelf life but otherwise how long it lasts depends upon how much you use it. For example a lounge carpet, hall carpet and two or three rugs would use about half a 1.4Litre bottle.
The superficial causes for your VAX vacuum shutting off during use can be from blockages along the hose and body of the model. There can also be a blockage caused by a build-up of dust, dirt, hair and debris across the models` brush bar.
Clean the filter screen located at the back of the dirty water tank. To re-fit, tilt the dirty water tank and line the front of the tank up onto the carpet washer. Push back until it clicks into place.

My carpet cleaner (bissell proheat plus) is not steaming, dispensing cleaner. Seems like there’s a little thingy that should be spinning or turning….. When I work a small area of carpet, it just leaves behind dry blobs of carpet gunk like pet hair. I had to use a carpet sweeper to clean up. FYI – I filled the cleaning fluid container and after trying to clean the carpet, it did empty out but the carpet isn’t wet. Any tips? The manual doesn’t help.
ANSWER : You need to replace the pump belt. Here is the belt you need:

I sucked up a sock into the carpet attachment of my electrolux 3500 series and the carpet attachment cut off. After the sock was easily removed (it was only wrapped around the brush part) I reattached the carpet attachment, turned the vacuum on and flipped the switch to turn the carpet attachment back on, but it won’t come back on. How can I fix it?
ANSWER : Did you press the reset button? There will be a reset button either on the back of the unit just below the bulkhead or on the top side of the base.
.
.Locate the reset button and press; this should allow the carpet attachment to resume operation.
.
.If you require an Owner’s Manual try downloading the Epic 3500 manual from this site:

We have a Bissell Proheat Cleanshot 2X Model 9500 Steam carpet cleaner. The first time we used it things were great. The second time we used it it left tracks in the carpet. We have no idea what caused this. We tried using the machine on an entirely different carpet and it did the same thing. After vacuuming the carpet about 10 or 12 times, the tracks are still embedded in the carpet – HELP!!!! We’re read and reread the manual and contacted customer service and received no help.
ANSWER : First things first. It’s only the second time you have used the machine, so it must be fairly new. If you have a receipt and the unit is less than a year old you should take it to an authorized Bissell repair center and have the machine inspected under warranty.
.
.Otherwise, The jets on this unit clog easily, there are two of them and you can locate them under the recovery tank towards the front of the machine, and blow them out with an air compressor. To prevent the jets from clogging in the future make sure to flush all shampoo out of the machine with clean water when done using it. That is most likely your problem.
.
.If it is leaving black streaks on your carpet it could be coming from a burnt belt or melted brushroller part, in which case inspect the belts and brushrollers and replace the damaged pieces.
.
.I hope this helped

.Good Luck

Carpet stained recently cleaned my cream coloured carpet in my entrance hall with a carpet cleaning product, wet foamy spray type, ran out of this and found a part bottle of a different brand in my cupboard, used this to finish off however must be some sort of reaction and carpet gone a greenish colour i think (colour blind sorry ) any idea’s of any product that might restore my carpet, will try anything, nothing to loose. thank you Peter McGurk Goole East Yorks
ANSWER : Ok in the future try to have carpet cleaned only by a pro. For spot cleaning use white paper towels or dish towels and warm water. (ONLY WHITE) 99% of fabric is white and then dyed to color and if you use a color cloth you might pull the dye from the cloth into the carpet. Now what you can try is your basic dishwashing detergent like electrosal with warm water and a dishtowel. little at a time try to blot not rub. try AFTA if that doesnt work. wet the rag first with warm water. pour the afta on the wet rag not on the carpet.
