How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

A possible cause might be that the tank is not properly seated. To assure the tank is seated properly, pick it up and re-seat is so it sits snugly on the unit. If this doesn`t fix the problem, make sure the tank is assembled properly. To make sure they are both latched properly, pick the tank up by its handle.
Your dirty water tank may not be secured tightly. Check the rubber tab on the dirty water tank and press firmly on all edges to secure it tightly. The accessory hose door also needs to be closed securely. Check the door and make sure it is locked in place.
Check your hose for any cracks or holes that can cause loss of suction. You may also have a clog in the lower hose. Pull down and at an angle to disconnect. A clog in the main hose could also be the problem.
Just Hot Tap Water

You can always clean up most of the mess with hot tap water. Then come back later with the proper Bissell cleaner, if needed.

Check to see if your clean water tank is empty. The clean water tank also may not be seated properly. If this is the case, turn OFF your machine and re-seat the tank until it clicks into place. Also try priming the system by holding the spray trigger down for 10-15 seconds.
Your Vax carpet cleaner may not be picking up water because the machine has picked up too much grime, and has become blocked up. Check around the head of the carpet cleaner for anything obvious that might make the suction on the Vax weaker, or look for clumps of hair that could be caught in the bristles.
A carpet cleaner is a device that mechanically applies soap and water to a carpet from a clean water tank, scrubs, and then suctions up the byproduct into a dirty water tank. Carpet cleaners work by applying and suctioning up water.
The short answer is that you should not use vinegar for carpet cleaning. There is truth to the idea you can use vinegar as a natural disinfectant for cleaning but it cannot remove dirt or soil from a surface or from carpet.
To fix a clog in the hose, feed one end into a garbage bag, and poke the other end with the back of a mop pole, until you push the clog material out into the garbage bag. To fix a clog in the vacuum, whether it is a canister or bag, use your finger to feel for a clog. Pull as much of it out as you can and discard.

Cleaner solution doesn't mix with the water – Bissell ProHeat Turbo Deep Cleaner Upright Steam Vacuum
ANSWER : Hi, this is very common problem the problem is that the problem is a simple one but solving it can take time. The problem you have got is that the detergent has turned to a gel over time and caused a blockage somewhere in the system now the problem you have is finding it as it can be anywhere from the detergent bottle down to where it comes out. The first thing to try would be to use very hot not boiling water put this into the detergent bottle without detergent then wait a few minutes then keep trying it for another couple of minutes if after doing this you still have the problem then its going to be a case of getting your tool box out( That is if you know more or less what you are going to do and remember how it goes back together, they are not difficult) if its still blocked then you need to start where the detergent comes out by removing the panel at bottom of the vac should be held on by 3 or 4 screws once this is off you should be able to see the jets where the mixture comes out (check these are not blocked use pin to push any muck out of the way) Once you have undone these screws you will need to puul the rubber hose off the jets but make sure you dont break it as getting parts can be a night mare. Now you need to keep working backwords up till you get to the detergent bottle along the way their will be a blockage. The problem is their are no manuals showing you how to do this and as all makes and models are different its difficult for me to give you exact instructions but if you have some knowledge of how things work then you should have no problems removing a few parts and giving them a good clean. Please try using hot water a few time first as this can solve the problem but you might need to do it 5 or 6 times without detergent hopefully this will solve your problem. Now what they should have told you when you brought this but they dont tell you and it doesnt tell you in the user guide is: After every use empty out any detergent and then run clean warm water through the vac for at least 5 minutes doing this ensures that the detergent wont turn to a gel with it sitting around. Doing this will ensure it will keep working and wont need taking apart after every use. (Why they dont tell you this in user guide is absolutely stupid as doing this will ensure you can keep using it over and over again). The problem you are having is the same problem that everybody has with this type of cleaner everybody who buys one has this same problem so dont think it is just you, its something they should explain to customers when they buy these but as usual they are only interested in your money. Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
