How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
If your Dirt Devil Gator (Model Number: BD10100) isn`t starting or staying on for more than 15 seconds, you may need to replace the battery. Follow this guide to replace the battery to keep your Dirt Devil Gator in use! However before using this guide, you may not need to full replace the battery, just charge it!
NOTE: The reset button is located on the upper left-hand side of the unit where the low voltage wires connect to the unit. It is most noticeable when popped out after the breaker has been tripped.
If the Dirt Devil Gator will not sufficiently charge or stay powered, the charger port could be malfunctioning. The charger port is underneath the handle of the device. Examine the port to ensure it is not broken, obstructed, or malfunctioning.
Overtime the battery pack located in your vacuum will hold less charge and might not charge at all. This can be remedied by replacing the battery pack.
It is possible to recharge a dead battery, and depending upon the situation you are in, a dead battery is generally an easy fix, whether you are stuck in your garage and can handle it yourself or you are in the middle of nowhere and need professional, quick, and efficient service in the blink of an eye.
Perform a power reset (or hard reset) to clear information from the computer`s memory without erasing personal data.
Some cars will get up to five or six years out of their battery, while others will need a new one after only two years. In general, your car will usually need a new battery after three to four years. Replacing your car battery is another part of routine maintenance.
Average 12V car batteries typically last three to five years, and manufacturers recommend always replacing car batteries once those five years are up.
Also called a power pack or portable battery, battery power banks don`t last forever. They last between 1.5 and 3.5 years, or 600 to 1,000 full-cycle charges and depletions. Read on to learn how long a power bank usually lasts and how to maximize its life.
BLACK+DECKER`s dustbuster can run continuously for 12 to 15 minutes before losing steam.
If you follow all safety precautions, jumping a dead car battery is completely safe. Here is a look at some of the safety measures you should follow: Make sure both cars are turned off when connecting the jumper cables. Always connect the cables to the dead battery first.
You can jump-start the dead vehicle and drive it to let the alternator replenish the battery charge. Alternatively, you can attach the dead battery to a battery charger. If the car battery voltage is under 12.2V, you may want to use a trickle charger to avoid battery overcharging or overheating.
You`ll know your motorcycle needs a new battery when it struggles to start or the engine won`t crank at all. However, you can also replace the battery as a preventative measure when it`s about 3-5 years old. This will help give you peace of mind knowing that you won`t get stranded when using your motorcycle.
When a battery goes bad, there is no way to revive it. No matter how much you charge it, a bad battery won`t hold a charge.
There is little to no harm in upgrading to a bigger battery. As a bigger battery keeps the AMP draw lower while keeping the voltage higher. * Don`t upgrade to a battery which doesn`t supply 12 volts: 12 volts batteries are standard on almost all vehicles and actually provide up to 13 volts when fully charged.

Dirt Devil R088100. Cloth Was Sucked Into Hole Below Dirt Holder
ANSWER : Brad, Hopefully it is the belt that you smell burning. I would start by removing the underneath side of the vacuum head. Normally just a few screws that are meant to be remove for general maintanence and circumstances such as this. After removing the screws this should reveal the dirty side of life to you. You may need to remove the roller brush, and inspect the ends to make sure the brush rolls freely while holding the ends. If not the ends may need to be cleaned of hair and strings: ends should pop of and a shaft runs through the middle connecting them. Clean and replace. Move on up the path the dirt travels. The neck where the head and vacuum come together is the next jamming point, if this is where the cloth is lodged chances are the motor may have over heated due to clogging. Your vacuum may have a automatic shut off. You will need to contact Dirt Devil to see if there is a reset for the motor. There are propellers / fan blades at the end of the neck just before the motor housing. This is most likely where the clothe has logged itself causing the brushes on the electric motor to emit the burning smell, if you can remove all obstructions and the unit still does not turn on, check with dirt devil about the reset, Hope this helps.

My Bissel powerforce 6596 has suction but the dirt is not making it into the dirt cup. If I shut it off, the dirt drops to the floor. Also the motor seems to be over heating. All filters are clean. I can’t find any obstruction.
ANSWER : Just because you cant see the obstruction doesnt mean theres not one. The hose could be stopped up somewhere not visible to your eyes. I have one and I have to take hose off and apart to clean it out. check the roller. Is it rolling?

I purchased a brand new P113 Ryobi charger about 2 years ago. It has never worked. If I put a P104 battery in for a charge, it looks like it works correctly. I push the battery tester on the battery itself, and it says full charge, but when I go to use the bateery, it dies right away. I have tried three new P104 batteries. The batteries charge on my charger at work with no problem. The funny thing is, I don't need a battery in the charger and the charger does the same thing, It runs the test
ANSWER : If you have your receipt, check with Ryobi to see if it is still under warranty. It comes with either a 2 or 3 year warranty, depending on when it was purchased. If it is still covered, get it replaced/repaired. If it is not, buy the P117 charger. $30 at Home Depot. It has a 90 day satisfaction guarantee. If it charges your batteries properly, you’re good. If not, bring it back if you don’t like/want it. My P113 won’t get out of test mode now, or charge Lithium batteries anymore. So I bought the P117 yesterday. Works great, and it’s a lot cheaper than new batteries! And it has a 3 year warranty.

I replaced the belt on my Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum and the brush roller rubs and makes a very loud noise when turned on. I have gone exactly by the manual instructions and made sure the belt and end caps were on correctly, but the bristles still rub the back and it makes a very loud noise. Without the brush roller in the vacuum, it sounds and runs normal. What could the problem be?

.Hello,
.I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure.
.The Royal Dirt Devil Featherlite Bagless Vacuum has just bushings in the ends of the brushroll and not bearings and once the bushings are bad I suggest that you replace the brushroll in the vacuum and put a new belt on the vacuum as well. There is no way to repair the bushing s in order to it to work properly. The suggested belt change is every 4 to 6 months and to store the extra belts in a Ziploc bag in the refrigerator to keep them fresh. Suggest looking at a local vac dealer. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
