But a shop vac has two holes. One hole near the top permits replacement air to enter the container. When a hose is attached to this hole, dirt and debris can be sucked into the container. Air circulates out another hole to equalize the constant airflow in the shop vac and keep the motor cooled as it`s being used.
Many shop vacs have two holes. One is used to vacuum, and the other is used to make the exhaust of the vacuum a blower.
Clean Your Shop Vac Often

Rinse out the hose with water and run it through until the water comes out clean. Use a power washer or a high-pressure hose to rinse out the filters.

Vacuum hoses come in various sizes, and they often play a part in many individual`s buying decisions when shopping for a new wet/dry or shop vacuum. Smaller diameter vacuum hoses are often more navigable and flexible, not to mention lighter, and for specific applications, there are performance benefits.
When a liquid mess occurs, such as a water main break, leak, or flood, there may be no more indispensable tool than a shop vac. A shop vac, specifically a wet dry vacuum, can quickly suck the liquid up into a canister for easy disposal.
Shop vacuum, also called shop vac, is an advanced vacuum cleaner that is not only able to pick up solid waste like the regular vacuum cleaner but can also be used to suck up liquid content. Apart from drying off wet surfaces, shop vacuums can be used to drain small bodies of water like pools and aquariums.
If you`re using your wet-dry vac to clean a dry surface, check that the filter has been correctly placed. You`ll need it—the filter prevents dust from blowing out of the top while you`re cleaning. For wet surfaces, however, you`ll need to remove the filter entirely.
A dry vacuum system does not use water to generate suction. A wet vacuum needs significant water flow to generate suction.
As a rule, most of the smaller canister or shop-type vacs use high-speed vacuum producers. These tend to run at a very high rpm, which can reduce the vacuum`s lifespan to as little as 800 hours — or about 18 months, assuming you use your vacuum for about three hours each day.
Wet dental vacuums (also referred to as wet-ring vacuum pumps) use water to create vacuum. Dry dental vacuums create that vacuum pressure by pumping dry air, using turbines or rotary vanes to create suction power.
Most manufacturers recommend you change your filter on average every 3-6 months. However, it is recommended to change your filter even earlier depending on usage and allergy care. Most newer vacuum models use more than one filter. Please refer to your manufacturer manual for further assistance on locating your filter.
Since the filter is made of paper, you can clean it with water, but you should let it completely dry before reuse.
A: To determine what accessories fit your vac, you need to determine the diameter of your hose. To do this, measure the opening of the accessory end of the hose. Shop-Vac® brand hoses will measure roughly: 1.25″, 1.5″ or 2.5″.
The Shop-Vac® 8 foot X 1-1/4 inch diameter Hose has a long extension end for cleaning those hard-to-reach places. This hose works with vacuums containing a 2-1/2 inch diameter standard friction or locking inlets.
Medium Diameter Shop VAC Hose: 1½-inch to 1⅞-inch

Shop VAC hoses with a medium diameter are the best all-around sizes to do a majority of work. They`re perfect for general cleanup, as they have a good mix of powerful suction and enough diameter for larger chunks to slide through.

Simply point the nozzle in the direction you want to spray, and pull the trigger. You can turn off the water by releasing the trigger and can control the flow rate based on how much you depress the trigger.
Luckily, your Shop-Vac makes cleaning up camping equipment a breeze. Vacuum pine needles, sand, leaves, cobwebs, and whatever other debris makes its way into your tent with a Shop-Vac.
For most conditions 2 inch to 2-½ inch hoses work best for picking up dirt, sand, and gravel. Many Shop-Vac`s have inlets that will adapt to 2-½ hoses that are available at most hardware stores. The shorter the hose length the better for picking up rocks.
If you own a bagless vacuum, do not put a wet filter back in the machine. This will hurt the motor, but even worse, it can cause mold to grow. A warm, damp, dirty place is the perfect combination to grow mold. Then when you turn the vacuum on it blows the mold around your house.
Check for a plugged hose:

Plugged vacuum hoses are sometimes the reason for a loss in suction. Hoses can get clogged with hair, dust bunnies, string, or anything else that can`t pass through the other end of the hose. Airways inside the machine should be looked at as well. Wherever there is an air passage, check it.

The longer a hose on a dust extractor, the more air friction it encounters. Portable dust extractor hoses aren`t perfectly smooth like the tubes you`ll find running through a shop. Those ridges create friction as air passes over them and reduces performance the longer the hose.
Before mopping, sweep or vacuum the floor to remove grit, hair, and other large particles. Removing the everyday accumulation of dirt first makes the task of mopping less arduous. Be sure to blot dry any wet areas before sweeping or vacuuming; otherwise, you`ll dirty the floor further by spreading the grime.
Simply get the Aspiron Wet Dry Vacuum Cleaner and Mop. With it, you can easily and quickly clean your floors without any hassle. It`s the perfect solution for hardwood floors because it`s powerful enough to pick up all the dirt, dust, and debris.
General mop cleaning –

Another simple way to reduce the odours that build up from a mop is to ensure it properly dries out after use. You can easily do this by leaving it in the sun. Once dried, store it upside down so any bacteria from the floor doesn`t get back onto it.

Torn Hose The hose on my Dyson is torn right at the top where the the accessories connect. I was able to take the connection apart and shorten the hose, but I don’t know what to use to reattach the hose to the black fitting. It looks like it was glued…not sure what kind. Any ideas?
ANSWER : Duct tape

Hose disconnected There is a clear circle on the part where the hose connects to the cannister (above the orange ball) that is in a position that has the hose disconnected. I can move the circle so that the hose connects, but it won't lock in that position. Help!

My hoover floormate h3060 has not been used for some time, when I went to use it, it would not dispense the cleaner..The last time I used it, I used a mixture of amonia and borax. I think the hose is clogged. What should I do??
ANSWER : You most likely have either a clogged screen at the bottom of the fill tank or the jets that spray fluid are clogged. You can unscrew them and power a paper clip through them. If the hoses are by chance clogged which doesn’t happen often, Pull one off at a time and blow real hard to unclog, then put it back on, then move to next hose.
Do NOT take all of them apart at the same time or they can get mixed up and it’s a pain to figure out how it all went back together.

Hose Problem The hose broke just above the cuff on the inlet end of the hose.  I found that the hose doesn’t thread into this cuff but appears to be heat bonded in some way. Can I get a replacement cuff or do I have to replace the hose?
ANSWER : Looks like you can just get the hose, part #38479-4, It should just screw into the adapter or it may be glued in.

I have a Hoover Wind Tunnel that has been used twice both times at Christmas to pick up pine needles. It really has never been used because my cleaning ladies come every week and use their own machine. The problem I have is that the machine just doesn’t pick up anything. Can you help. It’s not overuse that is the problem!
ANSWER : You may have the ductwork of the cleaner plugged up with the pine needles. First, unplug the hose from the cleaner and find if you have suction into the bag. If so, check the hose and ducts for blockage from the pine needles.

No suction Hello – any help with this would be much appreciated!

I just changed the bag and filters. The machine runs, seems normal, but there is no suction. There is no blockage of the hose, as indicated by the fact that that little viewer window above where the hose connects to the unit is not showing the red portion that it shows when there is something blocking the hose (god, this is hard to describe!).

If I disconnect the hose and put my hand over the hole, I feel some suction. But

ANSWER : Well, it actually sounds like there is a blockage. Try removing your hose and dropping something through it, like a quqrter. If it comes through, no clog. If it is clogged, I believe that machine has a blower on the upper part of the cleaner (maybe in the bag compartment towards the top. You can take out the filter holder and plug the hose in there and run the unit . Does the blockage come out? If not, Try shaking the hose, or you can put a stiff wire in it to try to free it. Do not run water through it. If there is no blockage at all, then you will probably need to take it to a service center. But I am pretty confident that we are looking at a clog situation. Let me know if this fixesya! Thanks, Rene (vacuum Doctor)
