How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

Our machines are engineered with six layers of advanced whole machine filtration, which means that we capture 99.97% of microns as small as 0.3 microns. Our fully sealed system keeps dust in the machine, drawing the airflow through all six layers of filtration, expelling cleaner air into your home.
This green light is an indication to a flat battery.
Vacuum cleaners use an electric motor that spins a fan, sucking in air – and any small particles caught up in it – and pushing it out the other side, into a bag or a canister, to create the negative pressure.
The suction motor creates vacuum pressure and suction by rotating a motor fan. The impeller rotates at an incredibly high speed of about 30,000 to 35,000 RPM. A suction motor`s power is measured by multiplying the rate of air flow and the vacuum pressure, which induces air flow from the brush through the hose.
Over time, all batteries are subject to degradation. So if your run time has declined when the machine is not in Max / Boost mode, it might be time to buy a new battery. All our machines come with a 2-year initial warranty that includes the battery.
One of the first things to do when your Dyson vacuum cleaner keeps starting and stopping is to empty the bin. It may be full, or the machine may simply perceive it as too full to continue working. Dyson vacuum cleaners require constant airflow through them to work, and a full bin can stop this from happening.
In a vacuum, a beam of ions or electrons may be formed. In other conductive materials, the electric current is due to the flow of both positively and negatively charged particles at the same time. In still others, the current is entirely due to positive charge flow.
Molecular flow prevails in the high and ultrahigh vacuum ranges. In these regimes the molecules can move freely, without any mutual interference. Molecular flow is present where the mean free path length for a particle is very much larger than the diameter of the pipe: λ >> d.
All vacuum cleaners operate based on air flowing from the opening at the cleaning head or tool, through the vacuum cleaner and the bag and/or filter system and then out the exhaust port. This airflow is created by the vacuum motor, which also may be referred to as the suction motor.
If you have ruled out an electrical problem in your house then firstly check your Dyson`s fuse, only replace it with a 13A fuse which is usually brown in colour. If you replace it with a smaller fuse it will blow that fuse immediately and lead you down the garden path to a problem that may not exist.
The Dyson V6 is designed so that you can store the unit on the charger. Storing the Dyson on the charger will not harm the battery and it is not necessary to use the unit until the battery is depleted.
If your dyson vacuum isn`t turning on, don`t panic – there are a couple possible causes. It could simply be that the vacuum overheated and shut itself off. If that is the case, wait 24 hours and turn it back on. However, another problem with dysons are failed power switches.
To reset the Brush bar press the Brush bar control button twice or switch the machine off and back on.
Check Your Battery & Charger:

Batteries don`t last forever depending on age and use. You may need to buy a new battery if your Dyson vacuum is turning on and off after only a few minutes of use.

Why does my Dyson keep cutting out? A Dyson handheld that keeps cutting out is known as pulsing. A Dyson V7 pulsing problem can be very frustrating! A few reasons why your Dyson is pulsing are potential blockages or problems with the bin or filter.
Current is the rate at which electrons flow past a point in a complete electrical circuit. At its most basic, current = flow. An ampere (AM-pir), or amp, is the international unit used for measuring current.
The electric current in wires is made up from millions of minute, negatively charged particles called electrons, which drift along the wires. As a result the charge flows around the circuit.
VAC (Volts Alternating Current) is a measure of the strength of the alternating electric field that drives the flow of electrons in AC electrical systems.
Most universal outlets found in households have a standard voltage of 120. Therefore, most vacuum cleaners are designed to handle 120 volts. If you find an upright or canister vacuum with a voltage rating lower than 120, it is not going to work with your inlet.
Typically, gas flow in vacuum systems can be divided into three main categories or regimes—turbulent flow, viscous or laminar flow, and molecular flow.
The overall concept that encompasses all vacuum systems and processes is easiest to understand when written as the equation Q (Gas Load) = S (Pumping Speed) x P (Pressure). This equation can be used in both a qualitative and quantitative sense.
Essentially, the system is comprised of four main components: the main vacuum unit, pipes and inlets, a vacuum hose, and cleaning tools. The vacuum hose and cleaning tools are what you – the consumer – will most directly interact with. They`re pretty familiar and work just as they would on any vacuum cleaner.
KEY TAKEAWAYS: Bagged vacuum cleaners comprise six main parts, including angled fan blades, a porous bag, an exhaust port, an intake port, an electric motor, and a housing unit. Extra attachments include brush heads, vacuum hoses, and angular suction tools.

I purchased a utilitech 7-day digital in-wall timer #0141224. My house wires are two black wires and a green ground wire. The new timer has a w,g, r, and b, wires. My question is what wires do I connect. I found the black power wire from the house. I have no white wire in the switch box. Where would the red wire go? Thank you
ANSWER : Hi!!.
..

    .

  • The Green wire goes to ground,
  • .

  • The White wire is the neutral. (in this case is used to supply power to the clock.)
  • .

  • The Black wire will have to be connected to the incoming black hot wire and,
  • .

  • The Red wire will go to the black wire going to the light.

.In order for the timer to work, you’ll need to run a Neutral wire from a nearby outlet into the switch box to power the timer..
.Good Luck!! A HELPFUL – 4 THUMBS – rating for this solution would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for using FixYa.

Dyson vacuum turned off while vacuuming – Dyson DC07 Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum
ANSWER : Hi There,
Assuming if you leave it for an hour and come back to it that it works again you have an airflow issue. This machine will cut out if the motor gets too hot. The likely causes are 1. Filters – take them out and give a good clean once dry you can try them again. 2. Blockage – Remove your u-bend and the blockage removal access check for an obstruction.3. Radix assembly is blocked. I will post a link to a YouTube video showing how to address this as it is a bit more difficult.
If your machine wont turn back on after a rest then your options are 1. Cord problem (most likely)2. Switch (unlikely)3. Motor

I have a video for just about all these problems on my youtube channel under VacuumSpot or VacuumSmart. If this is a step in the right direction please lay a thumbs up on the videos 🙂

Dirt devil vacuum cleaner–trouble vacuuming dirt and pet hair on carpeting –is the problem with the spinning brush which contacts the floor,  not contacting the carpeting??  I thought (when I bought this vacuum) that the aforementioned brush was adjustable to various heights of carpeting.  Sometimes, it seems like nothing is being vacuumed up –unless I have just put a new bag on the vacuum… Do I need or can I replace the spinning brush on the bottom of the vacuum so it kicks up and vacuums
ANSWER : Try replacing the belt. Rubber belts stretch out after about a year.

I’m sorry to hear you’re having difficulties with your DC28. The machine is equipped with a sensor which shuts off the brushbar if something jams it. Once you’ve checked the cleaner head for obstructions, and removed any threads or hair from around the brushbar, you should be able to reset the machine.
