Twist the lid until the arrows line up and open up the container to get to the hepa filter. Take the filter out and brush the dirt out, once a month wash the filter in warm water. Please make sure it is thoroughly dry before popping it back in – this may take around 24 hours.
HEPA filters are not designed to be washed and reused. Doing so will cause damage to the fibers which makes the filter ineffective and it will become void of its job. Once a filter has reached the maximum capacity of harmful particles, it will need to be replaced with a fresh, new one.
For best results the filters can be washed in warm water but check they are thoroughly dry before putting them back into place, this may take up to 24 hours. Hoover recommend that you fit new filters once per year to keep your vacuum cleaner in tip top working order.
Washing the HEPA filters probably broke some of the fibers or made the gaps between the fibers larger. That would explain why more air passed through after washing, but also more particles! Washing bottom line: Washing HEPA filters with water significantly decreases performance.
Generally, you can clean your replaceable HEPA filters about once a month and replace them every four to six months.
Wash your HEPA filter with warm water and allow it to dry if your model specifically states that water cleaning is safe. You can also soak your filter in hot water if it is extremely dirty. Clean non-washable, permanent HEPA filters using a vacuum to remove dust and debris.
If your filter is not changed in time, it will be clogged with micro-organisms like bacteria, viruses, and mold particles. It won`t be able to clean new ones and only capture them on the filter`s surface.
Although it depends on the specific filter you have, as a rule of thumb, replaceable HEPA filters should be replaced every 6-12 months, depending on air quality and environmental factors.
Soapy water and a rag will do the trick. There`s no substitute for time. After cleaning the air filter with kerosene or a filter-specific application, let it dry naturally. Following that step, be sure to wash the filter with soap and warm water.
Important note: Never wash your filter to clean it unless you`re certain it can be washed. Washing a non-washable filter will either cause it to disintegrate or the micro holes that allow air to pass through it will get blocked, rendering the filter useless.
If all your filter needs is a good cleaning, though, rinse it under warm water until it runs clear, then gently wring out the excess water and set it aside to dry. Finally, use the can of air duster to remove excess dust from inside the vacuum.
Rinse the filter

Any fine dust remaining in the filter can usually be removed with a gentle rinse under a cold tap – hold the filter under the running water until the water runs clear. You shouldn`t need to use any detergent – just water.

The H13 Washable HEPA Filter, made for all Harmony canister vacuum, Oxygen canister vacuum, and the Aptitude upright. This unique washable filter captures 99.97% of all dust and allergens in your home.
Cleaning the air filter not only does not improve, but also deteriorates its filtration properties. Only periodical replacement of the filter with a new one can provide efficient filtration of the air entering directly into the combustion chamber of the engine.
Yep, soak air purifier filters in a mixture that`s 50% distilled water and 50% white vinegar for around an hour. Then, rinse the filter until the water runs clear.
If you have dirty filters, you`ll notice a stale odor immediately when you turn on the vacuum and reduced suction as you work. For high traffic areas, the filter may need to be cleaned monthly. For most homes, vacuum filters should be cleaned at least every three months.
Running your washing machine with a clogged filter can limit your washing machine`s efficiency and can also lead to poor drainage, lint deposits on clothes, and can even leave behind unwanted detergent residue and a bad odor on your “clean” clothes.
4 states: “A filter may be repaired if necessary and shall then be retested” and further notes: “All repairs together (including those made by the filter manufacturer) shall not block or restrict more than 0.5% of the filter face area (not including the frame) and the maximum length of each single repair shall not …
HEPA filters are thought to degrade over time both during proper storage and during normal operational service; however, the rate at which the filters degrade remains unknown.
HEPA filters work. They`re made to work to a certain standard. They work so well they`re used commercially. They stay effective for a long time and they require no maintenance other than removing them and replacing them.
Wash the filter with vinegar and water.

Let the filter soak for approximately one hour, then rinse with clean water. If the filter is too large to fit inside a sink or bucket, use a garden hose to wash it off, letting the water run through the filter in the opposite direction of the airflow.

Clean your Air Filter

All exterior surfaces can be cleaned with a rag dampened with isopropyl alcohol. Do not spray liquids on the Air filter, as they may seep inside.

Bagless vacuums can save you money because you don`t have to buy replacement bags. But like bagged vacuums, they have filters that need periodic cleaning or—for HEPA filters—replacing, probably more often than with a bagged vacuum.

.Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Typically the top filter of which is the sponge is washable but the HEPA filter is not, it can be brushed off and vacuum off with another vacuum, but the best filtration is to replace the HEPA filter and to wash the sponge filter, if the sponge filter get to bad then replace the sponge filter as well. I purchased a brand new Eureka Pet vacuum, sorry don’t know exact name but it the one that has the self cleaning duster on it. Last night I used the vacuum on my carpet, it was working fine until I accidently sucked up the corner of a scarf that was hanging off a couch. I shut the vacuum off, pulled out the scarf and and resumed vacuuming. Much to my dismay the suction on the vacuum had ceased. Can you tell me if there is a reset button on the vacuum? The vacuum does not appear to be damage
ANSWER : If the motor is running, there should be suction. Possible problems depend on whether it’s a canister or upright and are:
.A clog in the hose, UR or canister. Detach hose. Drop small coin in one end and lift hose causing it to roll out the other. If it does, no clog in hose. Drop same coin into hose opening on power head. If it rolls out, no clog in PN.
.Broken fan blades, UR. Needs to be taken to shop for repair/replacement.
.
.A reset button is for use if the motor isn’t running, so won’t have anything to do with the suction.

Unbeknownst to me, someone took the bag out of my Kenmore Progressive vacuum and failed to replace it. I have been vacuuming without a bag for months, and today the vacuum stopped sucking. When I opened up the front to replace the bag, tons of dirt and dust came pouring out. I thoroughly cleaned the vacuum, put in a new bag, but still no sucking power. Just dust coming from the rear vents where one of the filters is. Is the vacuum ruined, or is it a simple solution of buying a new filter?
ANSWER : Sounds like you need to buy a new motor. All that grit and dust will ruin a motor and I’m surprised it lasted as long as it did.
.This is where a vacuum that won’t run without a bag would have been nice. (Aerus for one)

Hepa filter does not turn on hoover wind tunnel vacuum model U6630900. It was working (turning) and I cleaned the filter and canister and now it no longer spins when the vacuum is running.
ANSWER : The part you refer to is not the HEPA filter. It’s a very common misconception that that part spins – it looks like it when there’s dust whirling around it. In fact, it does not spin – there are no visible moving parts.

Bad Motor I have purchased two of the Kenmore direct drive beltless systems with Progressive systems. The first died after a year, the vacuum motor start making a grinding noies. I pulled the side HEPA filter and could see a fine coating of graphite like dust. Took it to a vacuum repair shop. They said the brushes were going and thus the motor was shot. I liked the vacuum and bought a second, 1 year later the motor is making a slight noise that and removing the HEPA filter I find a slight metall
ANSWER : That dust is from the carbon brushes on the motor. You may need to check them, and also clean out the motor compartment. A slight noise could be a motor bearing starting to go. Does the smell like rubber or electrical. If rubber, then the belt has stretched and needs to replaced. If electrical, then something is causing the motor to run hot, like a clogged filter, or it could be a motor going bad.
