Dyson DC18 all floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum\015 My Dyson falls backward & won't stand up – what's wrong?\015
How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?
Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :
Rinse the filters with lukewarm water until the water runs clear. Let the filters dry fully before putting them back into the vacuum. If your vacuum is still not picking up dirt, you may need to replace the filter.
If the vacuum is hard to push, the suction could be too high. Make sure the power button is on the right setting for the respective surfaces. Position I is for bare floors and position II for carpets and rugs.
If the vacuum is still hard to push, tilt it back far enough that you can inspect the moving brush while the vacuum is running. Be careful to avoid getting too close to the moving parts. If you see that the brush is not turning, that means you will need to replace the brush belt.
(don`t use detergent or wash in a dishwasher or washing machine). Rinsing under the water supply then gently squeezing the water out of the filter. Repeat until the water runs clear.

What are my alternatives? If I can’t service this machine without returning it to Dyson, I won’t ever buy another one.

.The original Dyson part number for the brush bar (often called brush roll) is: 911961-01
.
.If you type the above part number into Google Products (click link below) you will get a list of suppliers at varying prices. A genuine Dyson part will cost about $20-25. There are some cheaper replacements available but you may need a different belt to use these, so I suggest you buy an original. Make sure the supplier states the part is Original / Genuine Dyson or OEM.

.Turn the vacum on it’s side. Look on the side that has Bare floor/carpet control. There is a hose with two yellow buttons. Detach the hose. On the square side, look for a black button. Depress the button, then release. On the square side, slide the square up until it locks in place.
.
.Now try to see if it will go upright (it should)
.
.Finally, re-attach the hose.
