How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Turns off automatically

For a cordless miele stick vacuum cleaner, a temperature limiter switch automatically turns off the vacuum cleaner if it gets too hot. (Some models have a temperature warning light.) Overheating may be caused by a blockage in the vacuum, or due to a full dustbag and/or filters.

A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
Reliable protection against overheating

A temperature limiter protects all Miele stick vacuum cleaners from overheating. Should the air passage become blocked – for instance by vacuuming up bulky particles – the motor will automatically shut off for safety`s sake.

But not to worry, appliances are designed to operate within a range of voltages from 110 to 120. For the purposes of understanding vacuum cleaner specifications the only thing about voltage we really need to know is the formula, amps x volts = watts and conversely, watts/volts = amps.
As a central vacuum manufacturer we use the 120 and 240 volt motors. The 120 and 240 motors will not be adversely affected if used with lower voltages. The 120 volt motor will be fine on 110 volts. Likewise, a 240 volt motor will be fine on 220 or 230 volts.
Vacuums often cause “nuisance tripping” with AFCI circuit breakers because vacuums produce a small amount of sparking as they run. And because sparks are essentially small electrical arcs, they`ll occasionally trip your AFCI breaker. Other devices that are prone to “nuisance tripping” include: Flat screen TVs.
If the filter bag or canister is too full, it cannot pick up any additional particles and will simply jam or the motor will overheat and shut down. So, when you suspect your unit is about 75 per cent full, empty it! Don`t wait until it`s packed to the brim, clean it out and prevent the breakdown.
Check For Clogs or Blocks In The Vacuum

Check the hoses, the filters, and throughout the vacuum, and clean out any blockages or clogs. Vacuums will likely also have a recommended cooldown time to ensure that the vacuum won`t overheat. You will need to wait for that time before you turn the vacuum back on.

A vacuum cleaner can run continuously for 30 – 60 min each time. The vacuum cleaner has no suction power. For example, a hair cannot be sucked up.
Durability & Warranty – If you`re looking for a vacuum cleaner with durability and longevity, look no further than Miele. Miele vacuum cleaners are designed and tested to last for 20 years. Miele vacuum cleaners come with a 7-year warranty on the motor and a 1-year warranty on parts and labor.
If the grease or active charcoal filter of your ventilation hood(s) is saturated, the red LED indicator will light up. Your filter should then be cleaned or replaced as soon as possible.
Miele Washing Machines are vigorously tested to last the equivalent of 20 years use. Miele Washing Machines are ecological and consume only the amount of water and electricity needed for excellent cleaning and rinsing results.
A regular sized household vacuum cleaner will use between 500 and 3000 watts of energy, an average best selling model will use around 1400 watts.
An upright vacuum cleaner should be around 100 air watts and a cylinder vacuum cleaner needs to be about 220 air watts.
The Miele Blizzard CX1 Pure Suction is the leading bagless vacuum in the product lineup. This model is less expensive than the Marin, but has just as much suction power at 1200 watts.
A: 110 V only, we have Miele vacuums in 230V/50Hz if needed for European clients or vessels.

I am currently unsure, it my Dyson DC16 battery is charging as it should. I read all the posts about Powersupply voltage of 28V and defective PCBs.
I now need to know from someone who’s DC16 is working properly what voltage the battery should have when it is charged. I currently only measure 24.2V in mine.
Supposing there are 6 batteries in there with nominal 3.6 voltage each, which would add up to 21.6, I supposed one could charge with up to 25.2V (4.2*6) and once reach lower the voltage ke
ANSWER : Does it stop working real fast ?

We have a Kirby Sentria G10 from USA, thouh we are in Europe, where voltage is 220V. What’s the voltage of this vacuum? Do we have to get a voltage converter?.
ANSWER : Virtually all US made small appliances are 120 volts. I believe you can find adapters to do the job of perhaps a transformer.

Ask around where you are – maybe you may find a local resource as well.

After charging overnight, Roomba only runs about 25 minutes before shutting down with a red light. At this point the battery measures 15.13 volts ( about 1.26 volts per cell ) My hobby experience is that a ni/cad or ni/mh battery nominal charged voltage is about 1.2 volts per cell, and that the recommended end point voltage should be about 1.0 volts per cell. Seems like the battery is ok, butsome kind of voltage regulator is shutting things down prematurely. Is this happening, and , if so, how ca
ANSWER : Reset the Roomba by removing it from the charger, then holding “spot” and “dock” for about twelve seconds. When you let go, the unit will play an ascending series of notes. Then recharge it overnight. If the run time is still short, give Customer Support a call– be sure to have the Roomba with you when you do.

Hoover u5781-900, motor shuts off (intermittent)when you shake vac or make jerky movements. If you move vac to up right position the vac starts right up.When you giggle vac, motor starts and stops no mater if you just started up or vac for ran for 45 min. Thanks Lucy C.

.you have a bad connection somewhere in the unit
.this is a fire hazard and you should not use this until its been fixed
.could be a pinched wire or broken connections

My electrolux Epic 6500 power nozzle Model N109J will not work. It had an intermittent short which I thought I fixed (some of the insulation on the wires were pinched). I fixed the wires and it worked intermittently for an hour then shut down completely. Could the reset switch have a short? When I press the switch nothing happens.
ANSWER : The switch is definitely a possibility, but other problems can also cause this.
.Bad switch, needs replaced.
.Broken wiring in power nozzle, wands, hose, or canister.
.Bad PN motor.

.I strongly recommend taking it to the nearest authorized Aerus Electrolux store for a diagnosis (should be free). Allowing them to do any repairs necessary is recommended, as well. This will ensure it’s done correctly.

Intermittent a/c voltage
ANSWER : The contacts are fine, they just need to be bent up a little to ensure proper pressure with contact plate. I had exactly the same problem, and it solved it.
Do not remove black graphite lubricant from contacts!!!

IRobot 530 charges intermittently
ANSWER : Reset the Roomba: hold down “spot” and “dock/demo” for fifteen seconds, then release and listen for the tune. Then charge the Roomba overnight. The next time you run it, the unit should run longer. If not, call support and let them know you may have a battery problem. 1-877-855-8593 (I strongly encourage you to have the Roomba with you if you call.)

Kirby G5 intermittent power
ANSWER : I would say that it is a short in the power cord.
