How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Many smoke and heat alarms are now fitted with a sealed lithium battery, designed to last the life of the alarm. These batteries are not accessible for replacement and so if your alarm starts chirping but has a non-replaceable battery, the alarm may have reached the end of its life.
First, try the reset button on each smoke alarm. If that doesn`t work, flipping the circuit breaker off and back on might stop the noise. If all of that fails, your ultimate solution may be to disconnect the smoke alarms and remove their backup batteries one by one.
If your alarms use regular batteries, swap in fresh batteries at least once a year. A “chirping” sound means that it`s time to change batteries. Because alarm sensors wear out, replace each alarm at least every 10 years. Also, alarms have labels showing when they were made.
A smoke alarm will eventually stop chirping if you do nothing. Once the battery has run out completely, the device will switch to residual power. Eventually, this will also drain and the device won`t have enough power to beep and let you know it`s out of power. You should change the battery before this happens.
Clear Residual Charge to Stop the Chirp

Remove the alarm from your ceiling or wall. Open the cover and take out the battery. Press and hold the test button for 15-30 seconds. This will fully reset the smoke alarm and drain any charge left inside.

Which batteries do smoke detectors need? Most use 9-volt alkaline (you know, those rectangular boxes with two prongs at the end?) but some use AA. It`ll be specified in the battery compartments in your smoke alarms, so have a look to be sure.
1) Look for the expiration date on the detector. To check, carefully twist the detector off it`s mounting plate. The expiration date is printed on the back is the unit. If you don`t see an expiration date it means the unit is too old to operate and needs to be replaced immediately.
Remove the smoke alarm from the mounting bracket and disconnect the power. Remove the battery (for a sealed-battery model, see Battery Settings for a 10-Year Alarm to learn more). Press and hold the test button for five seconds. Reconnect the power and reinstall the battery.
The Batteries are Low: Usually accompanied by a loud beep, a blinking red light could mean the batteries in the unit are low. Consider adding fresh batteries and running a test to make sure it`s working. It Needs to Be Replaced: Smoke detectors don`t last forever.

I purchased a brand new P113 Ryobi charger about 2 years ago. It has never worked. If I put a P104 battery in for a charge, it looks like it works correctly. I push the battery tester on the battery itself, and it says full charge, but when I go to use the bateery, it dies right away. I have tried three new P104 batteries. The batteries charge on my charger at work with no problem. The funny thing is, I don't need a battery in the charger and the charger does the same thing, It runs the test
ANSWER : If you have your receipt, check with Ryobi to see if it is still under warranty. It comes with either a 2 or 3 year warranty, depending on when it was purchased. If it is still covered, get it replaced/repaired. If it is not, buy the P117 charger. $30 at Home Depot. It has a 90 day satisfaction guarantee. If it charges your batteries properly, you’re good. If not, bring it back if you don’t like/want it. My P113 won’t get out of test mode now, or charge Lithium batteries anymore. So I bought the P117 yesterday. Works great, and it’s a lot cheaper than new batteries! And it has a 3 year warranty.

Battery charge I just purchased a new battery pack insert for my Roomba, Replacement
was a breeze and it now works great. My question is; The last battery I
bought ( not from you) was a full cased roomba battery pack that didn’t
last a year. Roomba says leave the r Roomba charging all the time so
it’s ready when you need it, and that’s nice but I feel that leaving it
charging like that it will kill the battery faster as it is always warm
to the touch. These battery’s should last at least 5
ANSWER : Dave you are correct. You should never over-charge anything like a Roomba, Cel Phone, etc. That will kill a bettery very quickly.

Can you take the Swivel Sweeper battery pack apart to replace the batteries with new rechargeable batteries? Batteries look like AA or AAA, but it appears that the battery pack is sealed. Is there any way to get it apart:?
ANSWER : Yes you can if you have a way to cut through the plastic outer case,(I used a Dremel rotary tool). Inside you will find six double A Ni-mh batteries. I found eight of these for sale on ebay for around ten bucks, then all you do is solder some wire to the batteries like the original battery pack and tape up the case and charge.

I have a 2 fluorescent light fixture in my bathroom. The right side light quit working. I took the starter out of the left side and put it in the right and it worked. Starter, right? I bought a package of 2 Leviton starters FS 2 15w. They didn’t work. Thinking bad, I returned it for another package. Still not working. The original starter is a Sylvania FS 2. Is it possible to have FOUR bad “new” starters? Do I need to replace it with the EXACT same starter? This light fixture is 38 years old. No
ANSWER : It is not likely that you had 4 bad starters.I assume you have more modern lights in it too(not 30 yrs old). Here is a link to Sylvania. It may be just that it requires certain something(who knows what)that only Sylvania has.It seems strange because they are all basically the same and a generic one seems like it would work.I also googled flourescent light starters and under one that talked about operation,it did refer to some older models. But like I said,it probably has newer lights so who knows what the heck.Well, here you go.You may also just want to call Sylvania and ask where you can find a replacement instead of paying $5 to ship $2 worth of parts.

I think I need to replace the main battery in my small floor vac – the one that can be hand held like a dust buster or work like a small floor vac. I need to know how to remove the battery and replace it with what kind of new battery..
ANSWER : I see my sense of humor is not appreciated…it was only a joke. Anyway, here is what you do: First, slide the battery cover off the bottom of the hand held unit. Remove the battery from the motor housing by pressing the tab on connector “A”; this releases the battery from the motor housing. Plug the new battery (LC-R064R2P) into connector “A”. When installing the battery the wires have to go in first and they must be placed in front of the battery or you’ll never get the battery cover back on.
