How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

How long do Kenmore vacuums last? A. It`s suggested that the typical vacuum can last up to an average of eight years. With proper maintenance, a Kenmore vacuum could last that long or longer.
Check service panel for tripped breakers/blown fuses. If breaker is tripped, reset it. If fuse is blown, replace it. If vacuum cleaner is plugged in, be sure power button is in the off position before resetting breaker/changing fuse.
One caveat: Handling this vacuum`s 23 pounds takes some muscle. In our member survey, Kenmore canisters earned a very good score for predicted reliability and an average rating for owner satisfaction.
If the motor filter (located below the bag) is dirty, hand wash with soapy water. Rinse with clear water, squeeze out excess water, and allow it to dry completely before returning it to the vacuum. Insert a new dust bag and close the cover.
The average life expectancy of a mid-range vacuum cleaner is about six years. You can fix or replace things like blocked filters, jammed brush rolls, frayed hoses, worn-out stick vac batteries and broken accessories yourself.
A vacuum cleaner can run continuously for 30 – 60 min each time. The vacuum cleaner has no suction power. For example, a hair cannot be sucked up.
If your vacuum cleaner keeps turning off, this could be due to the following reasons: Blockages – check the hose and head for any obstructions. Filter – always check your filters, if these are clogged this could be causing the vacuum cleaner to work harder and lose suction power.
A damaged vacuum hose, clogged motor air filter or bad suction motor can cause the vacuum cleaner to shut off during use. A tripped overload on the vacuum suction motor can shut off the vacuum cleaner during use. If your vacuum has a reset button, push it; if the vacuum seems hot, let it cool off first.
Kenmore is a recognized brand in the appliance industry and has been around over 100 years. Kenmore offers high-quality refrigerators in a wide range of sizes and models at affordable prices. Variety: Kenmore offers a huge selection of appliances, from mini-refrigerators to giant, commercial appliances.
As of 2017, Kenmore products are produced by manufacturers including Whirlpool, Samsung, LG, Electrolux, Panasonic, Cleva North America, and Winia Electronics. Today, the majority of the brand`s portfolio is sold at Sears, Kmart, and Amazon.
Rinse the filter

Any fine dust remaining in the filter can usually be removed with a gentle rinse under a cold tap – hold the filter under the running water until the water runs clear. You shouldn`t need to use any detergent – just water.

Over time and extended use, a very fine layer of particles will start to line the inside of a vacuum bag, remaining in place even after the bag is emptied. This means that the bag will lose the proper airflow required to let the incoming air escape. As the airflow is restricted, the suction dies down too.
Rather than waiting for the canister to fill up all the way, the Vacuum Experts suggest you empty it after every use. If that`s not feasible, “empty the vacuum once it reaches half to two-thirds of the way full as a matter of habit,” the Vacuum Experts blog post recommends.
“We would recommend vacuuming at least once or twice a week—and more often if we have pets—with the right tools to remove dust quickly and effectively,” Patel advises.
The bottom line. Many vacuum brands recommend changing the bag before it becomes full, at least every three months.
Overheating usually occurs because the dust bag has not been emptied, filter has not been cleaned or there is a blockage in the floor tool, wand or bent hand piece. If your vacuum shuts down unexpectedly, make sure you turn the vacuum off and unplug it from the wall socket.
Check For Clogs or Blocks In The Vacuum

Check the hoses, the filters, and throughout the vacuum, and clean out any blockages or clogs. Vacuums will likely also have a recommended cooldown time to ensure that the vacuum won`t overheat. You will need to wait for that time before you turn the vacuum back on.

Kenmore-brand appliances: at least some models are made in USA. Available from Sears and KMart. (Sears is a retailer, not a manufacturer, so Kenmore washers and dryers are manufactured by many different companies, including Amana, Frigidaire, GE, Jenn-Air, LG, and Whirlpool.
Whirlpool makes washing machines, dishwashers, and refrigerators that bear the Kenmore badge. In addition to Whirlpool-branded appliances, the company also manufactures Amana, Jenn-Air, KitchenAid, and Maytag kitchen and laundry appliances.
Kenmore. The Kenmore Appliances brand is owned by Sears but manufactured by various appliance makers. The brand has a long history of over 100 years, having launched in 1913 originally on sewing machines.
Investors reacted quite favorably to the news that Kenmore appliances will soon be sold through Amazon.

I have a Roomba 560 (it’s still in warranty !!) and, after my summer vacation, it has a problem.
When I’m charging Roomba, the orange light blinks (and this is normal!) but this orange blinking continues forever…. the light doesn’t change to green.
If I detach Roomba from the charger, the light become green and it works normally until the light changes to red and I have to charge it again.

WHY, DURING THE CHARGING PHASE, THE LIGHT DOESN’T CHANGE FROM ORANGE-BLINKING TO GREEN?

HAVE I

ANSWER : The problem is not with the charger itself but it is with the battery inside the Roomba. It sunds like one or more of the cells has gone bad so its not holding the same charge as it did. I would recomend sending it in while the warranty is still valid so they will replace it. Your charger and the Roomba itself should be fine.

A few tips to keep the battery working longer:
Only charge the battery when it is drained all the way to zero. It will help keep the battery active.

Only charge the battery until it is full and then disconect it from the power source. It will keep it active longer plus it will help keep your electric bill down.

Performance indicator light is on and suction is not strong
ANSWER : You do have a clog! trust me. Check the wand and the yoke which is on the brush assembly. its the part that connects with the wand.
if thats not it then it has to be in the hose. the only way to get it out of the hose is to take one or both ends off and push a broom stick through it

Performance indicator light
ANSWER : Check to make sure the bag isn’t being sucked into the air filter. open the access door where the bag is and you’ll see the air filter at the bottom. to check, leave the door open while you would see the performance indicator light on, and then pull up the bag. this is one of many solutions i’m sure to the performance indicator problem.

When i turn on the vacuum it shuts right off. the speckled bag light is on (2 lights under the plug light)
ANSWER : Im going to guess you have an Electrolux Tank. the control valve inside probably went bad. normally i just disconnect it. Do no try to take it apart if you don’t know what your doing. take it to a vacuum shop.

The light on the top of the vaccum stays light and
ANSWER : You have a Electrolux, not a Guardian though, right? The light you are talking about is the bag full indicator. I know your bag is not full, so, try this. The knob on the top of the cleaner is a fine adjustment designed to let the bag fill up in different conditions, (dirt types) . So…turn the dial down to setting 2. Try it again. Did it work? If so, this is your adjustment . No need to ever adjust it agin. It is NOT the suction control. If this did not fix ya (haha) then, your adjustment diaphragm is bad and you will have to break down and bring it to Aerus(Electrolux) for a repair. I hope this info was helpful, if so, please leave feedback, it helps my rating, Thanks, Rene(The Vacuum Doctor)

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly
ANSWER : The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.

I have a Casa Blanca Intelitouch ceiling fan.
Panama5
12004T model no.??
serial no.: AU16550
A casa blanca tri-switch on the wall: lights-fan-power

When I turn it on, the lights and fan work fine.
After a period of time, the lights go off by themselves.
I don’t remember the fan ever going off by itself, only the lights.

ANSWER : The light are going off only because after a period of time the circuit lets off the trigger on the switching thyristor. So the fault is within the control box of the unit which must be taken out to confirm.
.Now attempt to do the job only if your are competent with high voltage circuits as the circuit must be checked before and after the lights switch off.
.It is also possible that the switching device the thyristor may be on dry soldering joint. So with the mains power off( or the power disconnected to the unit) have yourself insulated , use a soldering iron to touch up all the joints.
.Failure of capacitors in the trigger circuit is also possible to have this delay off.
.Trace the trigger voltage cut off at this point to come to the solution.( use a multimeter)

The unit is charged, the charge indicator light is green, and the three lights on the top are lighted and steady but nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?
ANSWER : Press each cycle button and see if it starts up. I don’t know if this is new and you just got it, but if so, you may need to remove any straps and retainers blocking the brushes etc.
