If you want to remove as much dust, dog hair, and cookie crumbs as you can, properly setting the height on your vacuum cleaner can make a big difference. Like all the extra attachments and hoses that come with your vacuum, tweaking the height adjustment knob on the base ensures you get the best clean possible.
With nearly 50 years as an industry leader in the home cleaning business, Oreck Corporation has earned its reputation for making clean easy. Headquartered in Glenwillow, Ohio, Oreck is also the first and only major vacuum brand to bring customers a limited lifetime warranty.
Before you spend your time trying to go back over the same areas, hoping you`ll get it all cleaned up the second time around, check out your brush roll and belt. If you`ve cleaned your brush of any sticky stuff and hair, and it all looks fine, you`re likely dealing with a stretched belt.
They just won`t hold up and require a lot of maintenance to keep going. Oreck, on the other hand, tends to last folks for decades, and models such as the Forever Oreck are warrantied/guaranteed for life. If you are looking for the best lightweight vacuum that will last Oreck is a great option.
The company behind the successful national chains Vacuums Etc. and My Oreck Store has chosen to consolidate all previous brands within the new David`s Vacuums brand name.
A little bit of water can do wonders for boosting a suction cup`s grip. Using warm water, rinse the whole cup so it softens it up. Shake the drops of water off the cup quickly and then put it up on the wall. That can often do the trick.
Clog located in the vacuum hose

Turn the unit on and feel the suction at the end of the hose handle. If there is no or low suction, then the clog is in the hose. You can remove the clog by running a long, stiff object through the hose, such as a butter knife, starting at the wall end.

There are varying degrees of quality and value when it comes to vacuums; if you paid a lot for the appliance, repairs are likely worth it, but we recommend that you don`t spend more than half of the original price for any repairs.
The level you set your vacuum depends on the height of your carpet. For bare floors, use the lowest or bare floor setting, for short and medium pile carpets use a medium setting and finally, for plush carpets use the highest setting.
For a vacuum cleaner to glide easily on a carpet, air must flow into the nozzle and through the machine. Block the air flow and the vacuum seals itself to the carpet and is hard to push. And, unfortunately, that`s what many consumers have discovered when their new carpeting is installed.
Oreck`s business was acquired by Royal Appliance Manufacturing Co, a unit of TTI Group of Hong Kong. TTI owns power tool and consumer appliance brands such as Ryobi, Milwaukee and Homelite.

Roller leveling is essentially a bending process. The out of flat part, sheet or plate is deformed by a series of alternating bends. These alternating bends are created by passing the part, sheet, or plate between upper and lower sets of leveling rollers.
To adjust hydraulic lifters two fingers spin the pushrod as the lock nut is gently tightened. When resistance is felt on the pushrod, that`s zero lash. The adjuster is tightened to specs then the setscrew locks it in place. When changing valvetrain components always check rocker arm geometry.
Clear the brush roll of any hair and debris and inspect by placing it on its end and spin. The brush should spin freely. If it doesn`t spin; it may be time to replace.
A quality roller should last up to 5 cycles before shedding. You can reuse it without affecting the quality of the paint application and over time it will end up paying for itself.
Oreck Vacuum bags available for all Oreck upright and canister vacuums. Oreck XL is one of the most popular Oreck vacuum cleaners but there are two different types of bags that fit XL models (with bag dock or without bag dock) so it is important to use your model number to determine the correct bags for your machine.
After a year or so, you may need to replace your vacuum`s beater brush. If the bristles seem to be squished, broken or are varying heights, it`s time to replace the brush. These can be found online with the vacuum`s brand and model of your vacuum cleaner.
Brushes. According to iRobot, brushes should be replaced every 6-12 months. Robot vacuums like the iRobot Roomba j7+ have multiple brushes that allow it to clean.
If your vacuum is set too high above the carpet surface, the vacuum can`t attract the gritty soil below. If the setting is too low, the vacuum`s beater bar or brushes can “fuzz” the carpet`s surface, causing it to look worn or frayed.
Oreck vacuum belts are easy enough to install, but they may have to be stretched before they`ll fit onto your brushroll and motor. If you need assistance, or would like us to walk you through installing a vacuum belt, then please give our customer service team a call at 1-866-972-8227!
An over-tightened belt can burn out any bearing that the belt rotates on, including alternator, power steering pump, A/C compressor, idler pulleys, etc. An over-tightened timing belt can ruin any pulley bearing it is connected with.
A senior test project leader stated that one of his top tips for lengthening a vacuum`s lifespan is “Don`t let the bag or bin get filled to the brim, which can clog the machine.” In addition to the extra work, dust escaping from a reused bag tends to go right back into the motor, causing damage.

My Oreck Upright will not stay upright! The handle falls over everytime I leave it stand on its own.
ANSWER : What you are in need of is what they call a detent. There is a possibility that is has broken off from the housing which means that the only way to repair it properly is to replace the entire housing. It may have just had the screw come loose and has fallen off and just needs to be re-attached and possibly needs a larger screw if the hole is stripped. You will need to take the bottom plate off and remove the screws holding the motor and the right angled air tube and then remove both of those so that you can see where the detent is supposed to be located. When removing the motor, be sure you mark where the wires are attached on the motor so that you wire it back up properly. Hope this helps!

Placing the handle of my Dyson DC07 into its upright and locked position causes the beater bar to stop turning. It will not start turning until the handle is first lowered to the working position and the Carpet/Bare knob is moved to the Bare Floor position and then back to the Carpet position. Then the beater bar turns until the handle is placed into the upright position. What might be the problem?
ANSWER : Hi its Darran at Dyson.

The brush control is designed to switch the brush bar off automatically when you stand the machine back into the upright position. It is designed this way to protect any delicate floor surfaces when you have the machine switched on and upright and when you are using the hose.

If the brush control should be in the centre position and move forward to the “on” position when you release the head. If it is not doing this, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1866MYDYSON (US).

My Dyson DC17 Animal Bagless Upright does not click to stay in an upright position. It works but the handle falls to the floor.
ANSWER : This is a common fault with the Dyson DC07 (and other Dysons) unfortunately the clip that holds the handle upright hs broken. It can be repaired, but will cost a reasonable amount to have done… I would just live with the problem and prop the vacuum cleaner against a wall when not in use.

Oreck upright hard to push – Oreck XL2000 Bagged Upright Vacuum
ANSWER : If hard to push, only a few things to check:
.
.(1) Rear wheels will get hair or thread wrapped around axles, dust, etc. and be hard to turn. Make sure each wheel turns easily.
.
.(2) Small wheels on newer models (since about 1997-98) toward front are worn, missing or have same problem as item 1.
.
.(3) Brush roll not turning. The brush roll actually helps pull this unit along the floor, as it rotates in the “forward” direction. If the belt broke, and you do not realize it, it may suddenly seem harder to push.
