Dirt Devil PD20000 Stick Steam Cleaner

How to Identify and Fix Common Vacuum Problems ?

Our sources include academic articles, blog posts, and personal essays from experienced Vacuum Technicians :

If the device isn`t producing steam, please try the following: Check for any debris or blockages in the head and main body. Empty and refill the tank. Check for any limescale/debris in the tank itself and descale if necessary.
A true steam cleaner expels dry steam vapor and most do not provide suction like a vacuum. Instead, the moisture loosens the dirt, the pressure blasts it out of its hiding place and the heat kills the germs. Then all the dirt, germs and moisture can be picked up in a towel.
We are often asked “Can you put Zoflora in a steam mop?” The answer is no. You should only ever use tap water or distilled water in your Shark steam mop – don`t add any detergent or other cleaning solution. This would void your guarantee and could stop your steam mop from working properly.
There is condensation in the stand steamer`s hose

To solve this, lift your stand steamer`s head to straighten the hose vertically and hold your steamer in an upright position: This will allow any condensation and steam to flow again. After this, your stand steamer should steam again.

Heat: To effectively sanitize, the steam cleaner must heat the water to 200 degrees. The hotter it gets, the drier the steam, resulting in a lower probability of damaging certain surfaces with excess water.
Yes, it does! And it`s actually a very effective way to clean a wide range of surfaces. Dirt, grime and similar substances possess an adhesive-like quality that allows them to stick to worktops, floors and other surfaces — and in some cases, they can prove to be challenging (and frustrating) to get rid of.
You get the best results after eliminating dirt and dust from the surface of your carpet. If the carpet is not vacuumed before steam cleaning, your carpet will look clean on the surface but remain dirty underneath. The steam cleaner cannot get rid of loose soil that is embedded deep inside the carpet fibers.
A good rule of thumb is to have your carpet professionally steam cleaned at least once a year, twice if you seem to track a lot of dirt in. This way you get a good, deep cleaning and don`t let the dirt build up. Vacuum once or twice a week to keep it clean in between your steam cleaning sessions.
To prolong the life of your steam mop, we recommend using distilled water in the tank. Make sure you only add water to the tank – chemicals or cleaning solutions (including vinegar) may damage the steam mop and could be unsafe. For best results, sweep or vacuum your floors prior to cleaning with your steam mop.
Only Use Water in the Reservoir

With the exception of a few models that have dual functions, steam mops are typically designed to be used with water and nothing else. The steam alone does a great job of cleaning the floor. Always read the manual on your mop model thoroughly for complete use guidelines.

Overfilling the water tank can prevent your steamer from working properly. When steaming in a low position you should periodically raise and straighten out your hose. Not doing so can cause condensation accumulation and will create a gurgling noise.
Water in the soleplate

This water will evaporate when your iron`s soleplate heats up. This may look like smoke. This is normal and will stop after a short while.

The exhaust filter traps particles as the air travels through the vacuum cleaner. If the filter is clogged, the vacuum cleaner will not have proper suction. If your vacuum filter is clogged, refer to your owner`s manual for cleaning instructions.
If your iron isn`t steaming properly, turn to the household cure-all: white vinegar. Pour one part vinegar and two parts water into the reservoir. Turn the iron on, and when it`s hot, hold it soleplate-side down. (Do not place anything valuable beneath it, because the sediment is going to drip out.)

Electrolux Epic 6500SR Full Bag sensor working, Does not Reset properly
ANSWER : The problem was a sticking switch that was not being reset. The vacuum on/off switch mechanism is comprised of two switches. One is the main switch that turns the vacuum on and off. The second is a shut off switch that gets tripped when the full bag sensor is engaged. This second switch is supposed to get reset when you push the on/off switch on the outside of the machine. The full bag shutoff switch was stiff and it, therefore, was taking a couple of presses of the on/off switch to move the shutoff switch back into the running position.
