What is the Shark S3501 Steam Pocket Mop? Instead of dragging dirty water around your floors like you would with an ordinary mop, the Shark Steam Pocket Mop transforms water into superheated steam to effectively clean and sanitize floors.
The Cleaning Nozzle is clogged
Calcium and other minerals may build up in the nozzle, so you may need to clean the nozzle in order to produce steam. To do this, either use the nozzle cleaner provided with the Steam Pocket Mop, or use a straightened-out paper clip.
Make sure you only add water to the tank – chemicals or cleaning solutions (including vinegar) may damage the steam mop and could be unsafe. For best results, sweep or vacuum your floors prior to cleaning with your steam mop. After use, unplug your steam mop and let it cool before removing the Dirt Grip pads.
Convenience: Vacuum mops can be more convenient since they perform two tasks at once, while steam mops may take longer to heat up and clean floors. Environmental impact: Steam mops are more eco-friendly since they use steam to clean floors, eliminating the need for harsh chemicals.
Our testing has found that all steam mops remove stains fairly well, with marginal differences, and are likely slightly better than a regular mop and bucket due to the heat and vapour produced by the steam.
The heat of the steam kills any germs, bacteria and dust mites on the floor. The steam also loosens up any dirt and grime on the floor using sharp and focused heat. The mop pad then absorbs the dissolved dirt, leaving your floors sparkly clean.
First, check to make sure the unit is plugged in and is in a working outlet. Next, check to make sure there is water in the tank. It is very important to make sure you are ONLY using water to fill the tank. Other solutions may cause breakdown of the gasket and/or other parts of the machine.
First, attach the mop pad to the mophead, then fill the reservoir with water using the filling flask. Once the steam mop is plugged in, it takes about 20 seconds for the steam to build up, and you`ll hear the mop hissing. During the first use, I found that I had to pump the handle a few times to prime the steam pump.
With the exception of a few models that have dual functions, steam mops are typically designed to be used with water and nothing else. The steam alone does a great job of cleaning the floor.
Soap only lifts dirt and oil into water, making them suspend in water. Therefore, the more soap you use, the more your mop gets saturated with dirt. So, if you do not remove all the soapy water from the floor, the dirt remains, forming streaks on the floor.
Vacuums typically do a better job than mops at reaching dirt in cracks and corners. This is especially important with grouted floors. Mops tend to glide over the surface and miss dirt in the grout lines. Vacuums are also better suited for dried snow and salt, which would liquefy under a mop and create a film.
There are a few disadvantages to using steam cleaners. One is that they can be expensive. Another downside is that they require a lot of water, which means you will need to empty and refill the tank often. Finally, steam cleaners can take longer to clean than other methods.
The Model S7001 has three Cleaning Modes, as compared to the two modes of the Model S7000. The Cleaning Modes are “Light”, “Normal” and “Deep”. The Model S7001 is differentiated by the addition of the Deep cleaning mode that the S7000 lacks.

Well-heated water is critical for effective steaming and cleaning. Choose a steam mop that heats water to the boiling point of 212 degrees Fahrenheit (some will heat water even hotter). Look for models that quickly heat the water; a plugged in steam mop will usually be ready to use in a few minutes time.
It is safe to use on many different types of flooring
I used this Shark steam mop on my ceramic kitchen floors, but it is also rated for use on sealed hardwood floors, marble, and stone tile.
Avoid Using a Steam Mop on Wood
Some steam mop manufacturers, such as Shark and Bissell, may say you can use it on a sealed hardwood floor, but Stocki recommends against it because moisture could still possibly force itself into the joints between the boards and get into the wood and warp it.

ANSWER : I tried running vinegar through as you would a coffee pot to get rid of hard water scales. This did not work. Then I noticed that the light behind the shark decal on the front of the machine was going off and on. And sure enough as I moved the cord around the light would come off and on. Looking closer I could see the the heat had melted thru some of the cord.I bought mine at Target before xmas last year, throwing away the sales slip after several months so I guess there is nothing I can do about it.
